0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Fedor Emelianenko! The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Valeri Chadov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Giel has closed the distance and engaged Emelianenko in a clinch.
Giel is looking to break free of the clinch but Emelianenko has double underhooks. Giel wants to break the clinch but can't.
Giel has had enough of the clinch but Emelianenko keeps him there for the moment. Emelianenko prevents Giel from breaking the clinch. Emelianenko fails to pull guard.

Giel is trying to get back to his feet but Emelianenko has full control of the position and if anything, Giel has just worked his way into a worse spot. Emelianenko tries to keep control of the position but Giel is staying busy. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Emelianenko is looking for the choke from the back position but Giel is controlling his hands well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. A lull in the action here.
Giel is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet. Emelianenko has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Giel has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Giel manages to get to his feet, escaping the difficult position. Giel misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Emelianenko misses with a takedown attempt - Giel sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Giel moves into the clinch. Emelianenko tries to break the clinch but Giel is controlling the position. Emelianenko tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Paul Giel has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Fedor Emelianenko is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Giel looking for subs off his back but Emelianenko has passed one foot through into half guard.
