This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the middleweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of New York, with a TWGC record of 29 wins and 26 losses; Vito Mazzini! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Amsterdam, with a TWGC record of 35 wins and 10 losses; Shane MacGowan! The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Donald Grub and Sam Margolis.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. A telegraphed takedown attempt from MacGowan is defended easily by Mazzini. Mazzini shoots in and bounces MacGowan off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Mazzini (2) vs (0) MacGowan Mazzini stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. MacGowan swivels though and keeps the full guard. MacGowan managing to control the position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mazzini trying to control the position from guard on top but MacGowan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. MacGowan looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! It looks like MacGowan might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. Mazzini has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. MacGowan is working away from the top position though. Mazzini keeping control of the position. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Mazzini wants to get back to full guard but MacGowan has mounted him! MacGowan controls the position. Let's hope that MacGowan has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. MacGowan is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Mazzini knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Mazzini for a finish. A bit of a pause in the action here. MacGowan controlling the positon. Mazzini is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at Kalashnikov ELITE MMA Gym , so we'll see if he gets out of it.

My spies in Fenrir MMA inform me that MacGowan has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends! MacGowan prevents Mazzini from getting the reversal.
That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. MacGowan tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Mazzini is in all sorts of trouble here.
