PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rashad Jackson (ranked 2434 p4p, 2228 weight class) and Warmaster Barnett (ranked 303 p4p, 279 weight class). Barnett has chosen This is WAR by - GWAR as his entrance music. On his way into the cage it seems that Rashad Jackson has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Rashad Jackson seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jackson blocks a jab.

My spies in PRETTY PETERS FIGHT CLUB inform me that Barnett has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Barnett goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Jackson has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Barnett but great work by Jackson.

Jackson throws a sloppy head kick and Barnett moves out of range easily.
Barnett throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Barnett scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Jackson is trying to stand back up but Barnett is controlling him

Barnett is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Jackson has managed to free his arm - good work.

Barnett is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Jackson sees it coming and defends easily.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Barnett is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Jackson defends it well.

Jackson shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
We've been told by Jackson's head coaches at Panda Sprawl n Brawl that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Jackson fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Barnett manages to avoid it.
Barnett tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Jackson swivels and escapes.

Jackson gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Barnett to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Jackson wants to stand and escape but Barnett is having none of it.
Jackson has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

and Jackson counters with a three punch combo that has Barnett backing up. Barnett nods at Jackson to acknowledge the strikes.
Barnett throws an overhand right that lands on Jackson's shoulder, as Jackson tries to avoid the shot.
Barnett throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Jackson forces Barnett back against the cage and clinches.
Barnett has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Jackson breaks the clinch.
Jackson misses with the combination.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Jackson has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Barnett finds it's way round the side to connect with Jackson's head.
Jackson connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Barnett momentarily.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Jackson tries to clinch there but Barnett circles away.

Barnett feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Barnett seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Barnett wants to lay and pray for a moment but Jackson keeps working.

Jackson leaves Barnett with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Barnett paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Jackson doesn't manage to clinch there - Barnett circles away.

Barnett changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.

Barnett is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Jackson is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Jackson has escaped and now he's on top!

Barnett is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Jackson defends well.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Rashad Jackson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Barnett escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Jackson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Jackson tries to close the distance and clinch up but Barnett swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Barnett feints the counter takedown.
Jackson will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Barnett goes for a double leg but Jackson avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Jackson continues to drive forward.
Jackson tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Barnett manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Barnett closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Jackson did well to prevent Barnett getting side control.
Jackson is staying active underneath Barnett, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Barnett takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Barnett throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Jackson escapes and throws Barnett's legs to the side, diving into side control!

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Barnett can do anything to dispel that myth.
Barnett tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Jackson wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Rashad Jackson is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Well Jackson has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
