PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Caio Victor (ranked 339 p4p, 3237 weight class) and Gator Boudreaux (ranked 45 p4p, 394 weight class). Gator Boudreaux told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 21 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Caio Victor!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Gator Boudreaux!
The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Sergei Dronov and Valeri Chadov.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Victor swings for the body but Boudreaux moves out of range.
Victor throws a head kick that misses.
Victor throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Boudreaux just misses with a punch to the body.
Boudreaux misses with a wild body shot.
A swing and a miss from Boudreaux.
Boudreaux swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Victor looks to land a right hand but Boudreaux moved out of range.
Victor dives in and grabs Boudreaux's left leg, looking for a takedown. Boudreaux pushes down on Victor's head and hops out.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Victor steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Boudreaux.
Victor fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Boudreaux manages to avoid it.
Victor is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Victor looks for a takedown but Boudreaux sprawls well.

A decent looking cross lands there for Boudreaux.
Boudreaux lands a really nice looking cross but Victor seems unphased.
Victor rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Victor takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
We've been hearing reports that Victor has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Boudreaux throws a nice looking combination but Victor bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Boudreaux throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Victor on the side of the head.
Boudreaux takes one on the chin but seems OK.

Victor looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Boudreaux is fending him off so far but Victor persists. Nope, Boudreaux circles away and we're back to standing.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Victor closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Victor lands in his opponent's guard.
Boudreaux really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Victor. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Boudreaux sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Victor fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Victor throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Victor throws a sloppy head kick
and Boudreaux counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Victor ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Boudreaux moves away.
Boudreaux throws a jab when Victor was well out of range.
Victor is looking to wear down Boudreaux with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Boudreaux throws a hook to the side of Victor's head but Victor sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Victor goes for a double leg but Boudreaux avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Boudreaux continues to drive forward.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Boudreaux throws a punch but it's blocked by Victor.

Victor is trying to pull guard but Boudreaux turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Victor jumps guard but Boudreaux stands there with Victor around his waist. Victor gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Boudreaux's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Victor swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Boudreaux counters with a nice uppercut.

Boudreaux now looks to counter with a shot at the body.
Boudreaux is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Boudreaux misses the shot to the body.
A combination from Victor does no damage.

Victor drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Boudreaux gets back to half guard.
Victor seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Victor's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Victor is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Boudreaux reverses the position - he's now on top in Victor's guard.

Victor looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Victor has his foot on Boudreaux's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Boudreaux works his way back into a safe position though.

Gator Boudreaux showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Boudreaux might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

Boudreaux is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Victor off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted.
