Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jesse James! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Remco Evenpoel! The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Cecil Peabody and Chris Downing.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! James thows a leg kick but Evenpoel checks it and Evenpoel counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Evenpoel throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. Evenpoel drives through and clinches with James against the cage.
I was talking to James's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight. Evenpoel throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Jamess head. Evenpoel lands a right hand. The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Evenpoel takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life. James letting Evenpoel take a breather here. An uppercut to the body lands inside from Evenpoel. With the two fighters working up against the cage, Evenpoel just misses with a elbow thrown towards James's brow. James is trying to pull guard but Evenpoel has him pressed against the cage. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Evenpoel lands with a short punch from the clinch.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Evenpoel. James is breathing heavily. Evenpoel lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt James or not. A bit of stalling here from Evenpoel.
Evenpoel lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of James backwards. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Evenpoel digs a right hand underneath James's ribcage. James let out a lung full of air as it connected.
That's one minute gone in the round. Evenpoel lands an uppercut. Evenpoel throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Jamess head.
James is rocked! Evenpoel lands a big right hand that drops James! The killer instinct kicks in and Evenpoel finishes his opponent with a series of strikes from mount. A dominating finish by Evenpoel!
