PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kane Dalton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Terry Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Terry Smith told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kane Dalton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Terry Smith!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Frank Dennis and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Smith shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Smith wants to lay and pray for a moment but Dalton keeps working.
Dalton regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Smith.

Dalton had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Smith is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Dalton Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Smith's back instead.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Dalton is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Smith knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Smith for a finish.
You can see the frustration on Smith's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Smith really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Dalton. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Smith looking very determined here, making life difficult for Dalton.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Dalton controlling well, preventing Smith from escaping the position.
Smith is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Dalton looking to break Smith's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Smith remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Dalton will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

Dalton patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?
Dalton keeps control of the position as Smith tries to break free.
Smith trying to control but not successfully.
Dalton is breathing heavily.

Dalton has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Smith has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Smith tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Smith is working to get back to half guard.

Dalton is going olschool here, as he tries to force Smith to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Smith shrugs it off.

Dalton lands a heavy elbow.

Smith is wriggling around trying to escape.
Smith tries to lock up and control but Dalton gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Smith swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.
Smith slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.

Dalton wants to work for an arm triangle but Smith is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Smith tries to kick Dalton off but Dalton keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Smith is looking for a sweep. Dalton is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Smith wants to control but Dalton is keeping busy.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Smith wants to improve his position but Dalton is controlling well.
Smith is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Dalton jumps into side control!
Smith tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Dalton presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
Smith is in all sorts of trouble here.

Dalton has hold of Smith's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Smith manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Smith can't escape the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kane Dalton dominated that round.
That's time! Dalton's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Smith scores with a takedown into Dalton's guard.
Dalton is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Smith throws a big right hand that misses.

Dalton is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Smith rolls with it to try and escape but Dalton cranks on the arm and Smith is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:45 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Kane Dalton!
