PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Norris Chow (ranked 2625 p4p, 2905 weight class) and Luiz Mendoza (ranked 270 p4p, 298 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Norris Chow!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Luiz Mendoza!
The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Konstantin Menshow and Dmitry Maklakov.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chow fails with the takedown
and Mendoza counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Chow takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Chow turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Mendoza is trying hard to land a takedown here. Chow sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Mendoza seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Mendoza has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Gym Goroshi London. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.
Chow wants to sweep but no luck.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Mendoza is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Chow doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Mendoza.
Still in half guard, Mendoza seems content to control.
Chow works his way to full guard. Good work.

Mendoza creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Chow sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

A lull in the action here as Mendoza stalls from top position.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Mendoza is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Chow is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Mendoza stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Mendoza wants it to stay on the feet.

Chow throws a nice looking combination but Mendoza bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Chow dives in and grabs Mendoza's left leg, looking for a takedown. Mendoza pushes down on Chow's head and hops out.

Mendoza is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Chow is just riding it out for now. Mendoza eventually gives up the hold.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

After the fight, Luiz Mendoza was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
