Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 3 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mark Billings! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 5 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Chris George! The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Dean Styles and Chad Campbell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! George tries to clinch up. George moves away from the strike by Billings. George throws a combination that misses and George takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Donk. Billings catches George right on the button with a cross. George closes this distance looking for a takedown but Billings circles away. Billings throwing a counter right hand but George manages to avoid it. George is looking to clinch. George drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles. George misses with a takedown and Billings counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Billings misses with an uppercut. George saw that one coming. Billings getting the better of the striking in that exchange. George tries to clinch up. Billings digs a good hook to George's body.
George with a lazy takedown attempt and Billings connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Mark Billings has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chris George. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! George looks to clinch and Billings makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. George walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
That's one minute gone in the round. George tries to clinch up and Billings counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. George takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Billings lands a body shot.
George doesn't manage to clinch there - Billings circles away.
A shot to the body from George misses and Billings makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. Billings ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. Billings misses with a straight right. Billings comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range. George gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Billings. Billings lands with a nice body punch. George with a lazy takedown attempt and Billings counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps George thinking. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! George doesn't succeed with the takedown and Billings makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. George looks winded!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Billings lands a slapping body shot.
George throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Mark Billings is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. George shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Billings counters with a stiff right hand. Billings connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son. Chris George seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Billings lands with a right hand. Nice shot by Billings.
George is rocked! Billings lands a straight punch to the body, keeping George at a distance.
Billings connects with a looping right hand.
George is still on wobbly legs! Can Billings finish him? A head kick by George misses and Billings counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. George on the wrong end of a nice hook. George throws a lazy head kick and Billings counters with a nice body shot. George drops his hands momentarily and Billings takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Billings cracks George with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business. Good standup being displayed there by Billings as he connects with a hook. George throws a lazy uppercut
and Billings counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. George doesn't succeed with the takedown and Billings counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. Billings lands with a good body shot. George on the wrong end of a nice hook. George is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. George takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Billings lands with an overhand left. Good standup being displayed there by Billings as he connects with a hook. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! George has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from George there as he acknowledges the shot. George fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Jab by Billings. George takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him. A cross from Billings lands. Billings is really peppering his opponent's head with punches. George shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Billings counters with a crisp right that sends George to the canvas! Billings follows up with punches from the mount and this one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:27 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Mark Billings! Chris George spoke after the fight, saying 'he fought better'.
