Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mark Borrego! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Isopaa Mfer! The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Chad Campbell and Eddie Farnsworth.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Borrego is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Mfer. Borrego definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Borrego looks to land a right hand but Mfer moved out of range. Borrego connects with a single shot there. Borrego jabbing away but nothing is landing. Borrego throws the left hand but Mfer avoids the punch easily. Mfer blocks a jab. It seemed like Mfer was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it. Borrego throws a shot from downtown. Mfer moves away and avoids it. Borrego throws a shot from downtown. Mfer moves away and avoids it. Mfer uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Borrego. Mfer throws out a counter right but Borrego avoids it with no problem. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Borrego looks to land a right hand but Mfer moved out of range. It seemed like Mfer was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it. Borrego tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Mfer was well out of range. Poor timing from Borrego. Borrego misses with an uppercut
and Mfer counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Mfer moves out of range of the strikes. Borrego misses with a right hand and Mfer counters with a straight right hand.
That's one minute gone in the round. Borrego throws a jab but it's blocked by Mfer. Mfer misses with an uppercut
and Borrego counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Borrego takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
The fighters circling - Borrego throws out the jab but it was never going to land. A little jabbing left from Mfer on the counter but it doesn't find it's target. The fighters circle momentarily. Mfer darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch. Borrego is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all. Mfer comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range. Mfer gets the takedown into side control. Mfer has an Americana. Borrego didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Mfer is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Mfer hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
