Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Curtis Rome (ranked 2780 p4p, 3602 weight class) and Dmitri Kersikov (ranked 355 p4p, 425 weight class). Kersikov is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Builder - Her Voice (Headhunterz Remix). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 6 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Curtis Rome! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dmitri Kersikov! The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Phil Schofield and Paul Tew.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Kersikov. Kersikov defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Rome. A nice side step and Kersikov releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home. Kersikov works the jab nicely. Kersikov fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Rome has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage. Rome checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time. Kersikov's jab looks to have found its range, popping Rome under the eye. Kersikov scores with a jab to the head.
Rome dives in and scores a takedown into Kersikov's guard. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Kersikov can do anything to dispel that myth. Kersikov pulls Rome in to control the position. Kersikov keeping moving, preventing Rome from controlling successfully. Rome pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Kersikov is keeping the position for now. Kersikov working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Rome.

Rome tries to free his leg and advance position but Kersikov is retaining full guard. Rome drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Rome jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Kersikov keeping full guard, as Rome tries to pass. Kersikov looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Rome passes easily into side control. Nice work. Sloppy strikes there by Rome. Kersikov sneaks back into half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rome looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Kersikov tries to roll over but Rome keeps him under control. Kersikov makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Kersikov.

Kersikov is fighting to maintain full guard but Rome has managed to sneak the leg through. Kersikov is not content to let Rome control the position. Rome looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Kersikov felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it. Rome seems to be working for a kimura but Kersikov defends the submission attempt.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Rome is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Kersikov is just riding it out for now. Rome eventually gives up the hold. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Rome frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Rome looking for a guillotine from mount but Kersikov is having none of it. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Kersikov tries to get back to half guard but can't. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Curtis Rome will probably get the nod. That's time! Rome's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. A nice leg kick lands there from Kersikov. Kersikov throws a leg kick but Rome sees it coming and checks it nicely. Rome goes for a double leg but Kersikov avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Kersikov continues to drive forward. Kersikov prevents the takedown attempt.
Rome is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Kersikov gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Curtis Rome. That's going to take a lot out of him. A nice left hand lands by Kersikov.
Kersikov tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage. Kersikov lands a left hand.
Kersikov misses with a hook from the clinch. Kersikov misses with a short punch on the inside. Rome is looking to take this one to the mat. Rome tries for a takedown. No joy.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Rome jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Kersikov walks away with a smile on his face. Rome gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Rome moves out of range of the leg kick from Kersikov. Rome thinks about countering with a head kick. Kersikov throws a nice outside leg kick. Rome fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Kersikov sprawls well initially but Rome persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Kersikov kicks off Rome and gets to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kersikov lands with a thumping leg kick.
Kersikov cracks Rome with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business. A low kick from Kersikov misses and Rome counters with a lovely straight right hand! Rome avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Rome seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym. Rome tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Kersikov defends well and Rome ends up having to push Kersikov into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Kersikov steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect. Rome is trying to force a seperation but Kersikov has the dominant position. Rome is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Kersikov to keep the fight standing. Rome drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Rome tries to pull guard but Kersikov forces him back to his feet, against the cage. Kersikov lands a nice uppercut. Kersikov lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage. Rome wants a takedown.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rome manages to break the clinch.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Kersikov. This has been an exciting period of action! Kersikov throws a leg kick and Rome counters with a straight right hand. A telegraphed right hand from Kersikov misses the target. A little feinted left hand from Rome on the counter but he doesn't commit to it. Kersikov lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head. Dmitri Kersikov is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Kersikov tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target. Horrible takedown attempt by Rome or perhaps it was just good defense by Kersikov, which made it look bad. No luck with that takedown attempt from Rome. And an attempted straight right on the counter from Kersikov! But no joy. Rome checks a low kick from Kersikov.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Rome checks a leg kick. Kersikov throws a nice inside leg kick. A nice leg kick lands there from Kersikov. Kersikov swinging wildly here.
Kersikov looks for the body kick but Rome saw that one coming. Kersikov misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Rome.
Rome is looking to counter with head kicks. Kersikov chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Rome takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. Rome shoots in and bounces Kersikov off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Kersikov has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Rome has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Kersikov throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges. Kersikov stops a takedown attempt from Rome.
Rome is looking for a takedown. Kersikov lands a shoulder strike. Rome goes for a takedown in the clinch but Kersikov prevents it.

Rome changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Kersikov fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Kersikov works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance. Kersikov misses with a low kick. Rome half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range. Kersikov throws a lazy body kick and Rome counters with a single leg into guard. Kersikov didn't expect that. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Dmitri Kersikov showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round! Kersikov walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Rome checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side. Kersikov misses with an uppercut. Kersikov misses with a leg kick and Rome connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Rome is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight. Kersikov gets caught flat footed, as Rome shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Rome tries to free his leg and advance position but Kersikov is retaining full guard. Kersikov is controlling Rome's posture. Rome stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kersikov swivels though and keeps the full guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Kersikov seems keen to control Rome's posture. Rome is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Rome seems to be working for a kimura but Kersikov defends the submission attempt. Rome is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Kersikov is just riding it out for now. Rome eventually gives up the hold. Rome looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Kersikov manages to escape and get back to his feet! Some bone on bone action there as Rome checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one. Good leg kick by Kersikov. Excellent takedown into side control there by Rome. Kersikov tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Rome wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Rome is trying to get an arm triangle but Kersikov is defending well. Kersikov is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rome tries to move into full mount but can't pass Kersikov's legs. Rome tries for a kimura but Kersikov is defending well. Rome working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Rome working away.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Kersikov tries to bench press Rome off him but Rome keeps the position. Rome goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Kersikov rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Rome's guard! Nice work there by Kersikov! Rome escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kersikov gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Kersikov stands and throws Rome's legs to the side, diving into side control. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Rome throws a couple of punches but he's in a bad position and they don't land. Rome is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
And that's the end of the fight! I would just about give that final round to Dmitri Kersikov. I think Kersikov has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
