PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Konichiwa Jempsa (ranked 310 p4p, 932 weight class) and Gustav Line (ranked 48 p4p, 130 weight class). Line is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: For Heavy Metal we will die!. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 24 - 12 - 0, fighting out of London, Konichiwa Jempsa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Gustav Line!
The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Paulsen Ambrosius and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Line is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.

It looks like Konichiwa Jempsa has been cut.
A looping hook to the body misses from Line. Jempsa does a little dance to reset his feet.
Jempsa was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.

and Line counters by clinching up.

Line goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Jempsa blocks a body shot from Line.
Jempsa wants to get back to striking at distance but Line won't allow it.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Jempsa.

Line misses with a body punch.
Line scores with a shot to the side of Jempsa's head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Line lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Jempsa backwards.

Line breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Line fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Jempsa looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Jempsa shoots in for a double leg but Line sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Line swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Jempsa looks for a takedown but Line sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Konichiwa Jempsa. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Jab, jab by Jempsa - just one landing.
Line takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.

Jempsa is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Line's half guard.
Line is looking for a sweep. Jempsa is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Our spies down at at Heavy Metal inform us that Line has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?

Jempsa shoots for a double leg takedown but Line sprawls well. He's pushed Jempsa's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Line is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Jempsa with a body shot.
Line throws a nice inside leg kick.

Line leaves Jempsa with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Line swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Jempsa works the jab nicely.
Line lands a slapping body shot.
Jempsa blocks a head kick by Line.
Gustav Line is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Jempsa drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Jempsa looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
It seemed like Line was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

Jempsa shoots in and drives through. Line sprawls well.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Jempsa shoots in but Line avoids the takedown attempt easily.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Horrible takedown attempt by Jempsa or perhaps it was just good defense by Line, which made it look bad.

Line stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Jempsa swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Line would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Line wants to control from the top but Jempsa keeps moving.
Line passes into half guard.
It looks like Line is going to stand back up.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Jempsa looking to hit a scissor sweep but Line is one step ahead there.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Jempsa.

Jempsa is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Line.

We've been hearing that Jempsa has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

Line working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Jempsa doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Jempsa manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Line manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Jempsa manages to get himself to full guard.

Line is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Jempsa is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

That was a close second round but I would say that Konichiwa Jempsa will probably get the nod.

Line is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Jempsa can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Line controls the pace.

Line is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Line decides to stand back up. Line steps back and let's Jempsa get back to his feet.

Gustav Line comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Line has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
