The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The bruiser tries to clinch but Rainier moves out of range. Rainier clinches with his opponent.
Rainier is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though. The bruiser lands an uppercut. Rainier changes levels and goes for a takedown here. The bruiser fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Rainier swats away the attempt to clinch by The bruiser. Rainier feints and as The bruiser raises his hands in defense, Rainier changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Rainier throwing strikes but missing. Rainier stands up from guard. Let's bang! Rainier shoots in but no luck this time. Tom The bruiser has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. Rainier is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Rainier is defending well here and trying to improve his position.

Kyle Rainier seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Rainier clinches up with The bruiser and pushes him back against the cage. The bruiser misses with a hook to the ribs.

That was a close round but I would say that Tom The bruiser will probably get the nod. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
The bruiser keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Tom The bruiser is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. The bruiser fails in his attempt to clinch. Rainier looks to land a body kick but The bruiser moved away. Rainier circles away from the clinch attempt.

The bruiser tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Rainier counters with a solid body kick. Rainier shoots in but no luck this time. Rainier darts in trying to clinch and The bruiser holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. A short body shot lands from The bruiser as the two fighters clinch.

Rainier Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take The bruiser's back instead. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Rainier wants to control the position but The bruiser frees himself and scrambles - Rainier manages to regain control in side control.

The bruiser scores with a shoulder strike. Rainier turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control! Rainier stands up and we're back to a striking position. The bruiser instigates a clinch. The bruiser tries to stall but Rainier uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The bruiser wants to get back to his feet. Rainier wants to control but The bruiser manages to buck him off and is now in Rainier's guard! Nice work there by The bruiser! Rainier looking for a sweep. Not yet Rainier, not yet. Rainier wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and The bruiser manages to pass to side control. Rainier is looking to improve his position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The bruiser decides to stand up. The bruiser tries to clinch up. Rainier closes the distance but The bruiser moves to the side and The bruiser counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Rainier working a defensive guard here.
Rainier thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage. Rainier has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but The bruiser has passed into side control.
Rainier is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

The bruiser decides to stand back up. Rainier has his takedown stuffed and The bruiser counters by moving into the clinch. Tom The bruiser has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kyle Rainier. Rainier tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. The bruiser just stands there and leans against the cage. The bruiser manages to break the clinch.
The fight stays on the outside here - The bruiser looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Rainier shoots in but no luck this time. Kyle Rainier has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! The bruiser tries to clinch up. Rainier drives through and clinches with The bruiser against the cage.
Rainier jumps guard but The bruiser stands there with Rainier around his waist. Rainier gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. The bruiser struggles to land a body shot inside as Rainier controls his hands.

And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Tom The bruiser. Well I reckon that's a shut out for The bruiser, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent.
