The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maia has his takedown stuffed
and Newton counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Newton moves into the clinch successfully.
Maia looking for a takedown.
Newton lands an uppercut.
Newton lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Maia wants a takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lucas Maia. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Maia wants to take the fight to the mat but Newton manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Newton is pressed up against the cage. Maia has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Newton down to the mat. Newton avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Newton closes the distance and clinches.

Newton pushes Maia back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.

Newton drops Maia onto one knee with a big uppercut from the clinch! Maia is propped up by the cage and works his way back to his feet!
Oh Maia is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Newton lands an uppercut in the clinch that drops Maia to his knees! Newton keeps firing more shots against his stricken opponent and the referee jumps in to save him!
