PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Nathan Diaz (ranked 2896 p4p, 4871 weight class) and Bruce Leroy (ranked 0 p4p, 540 weight class). Diaz comes to the cage accompanied by The Rain. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Bruce Leroy!
The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, Dirk Anderson and Santiago Holmes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Leroy avoids a punch combination nicely.
Diaz misses with a double jab.
Leroy fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Diaz throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Leroy moves out of range of the body kick.
Nice takedown defense from Diaz. No joy for Leroy on that attempt.
Leroy tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Diaz swivels and escapes.
Nathan Diaz has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bruce Leroy.
Leroy shoots for a double leg takedown but Diaz sprawls well. He's pushed Leroy's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Diaz lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Leroy circles away quickly and effectively.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

And Diaz counters with a quick kick to the body but Leroy blocks it.
Diaz moves out of range of the body kick from Leroy.
Diaz throws a head kick but Leroy moves out of range.
Diaz throws a body kick, spinning off balance

and Leroy counters by moving into the clinch.
Diaz tries to break the clinch but Leroy is controlling the position.
Leroy is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Diaz to keep the fight standing.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Leroy just misses with a elbow thrown towards Diaz's brow.
Leroy is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Diaz is looking to break free of the clinch but Leroy has double underhooks.
Leroy drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Diaz gets the underhooks and prevents it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Leroy jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Diaz walks away with a smile on his face. Leroy gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Nathan Diaz is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Diaz throws a series of punches but Leroy moves out of range.

Diaz gets tackled into the cage by Leroy. Leroy maintains the clinch.
Leroy tries to pull guard but Diaz holds him up against the cage and eventually Leroy drops back down to his feet.
Leroy goes for a takedown attempt but Diaz pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Diaz throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Leroy jabs at Diaz's body.

Leroy tries to clinch up.
Diaz throws a series of punches but Leroy avoids them all with ease.
Diaz misses with a combination

and Leroy counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Diaz pushes Leroy off and scrambles back to his feet.
Diaz with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Diaz swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Leroy counters by moving into the clinch.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Diaz wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Leroy pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Leroy moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Diaz throws a nice looking combination but Leroy bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Leroy throws a counter combo.
Leroy avoids the head kick by Diaz.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Leroy looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Diaz is fending him off so far but Leroy persists. Nope, Diaz circles away and we're back to standing.
Diaz looks to land a combination but Leroy avoids it well.
Diaz looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Leroy changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Diaz scores with a nice body kick.
Diaz throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.

Leroy throws a leg kick but Diaz sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Diaz just misses with a punch to the body.

Diaz will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Leroy breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
The fighters circle, before Diaz throws a beautiful high kick that crashes into Leroy's neck, sending him stumbling to the floor! Diaz lands more strikes and forces a referee stoppage! That one ended in an instant!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:49 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Kick & Punches). Nathan Diaz!
