PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Svend Thorsby (ranked 1720 p4p, 1701 weight class) and Parta Matti (ranked 49 p4p, 57 weight class). Parta Matti told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Parta Matti!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Reed Andrews and John Kavanagh.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thorsby misses with a wild body shot.
Matti moves out of range of the strikes.
Matti is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Thorsby thows a leg kick but Matti checks it
and Matti makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Thorsby misses with a hook
and Matti counters with a nice kick to the body.
Thorsby is breathing heavily.

Matti drops Thorsby with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Thorsby looks back up at him and smiles so Matti waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.

It looks like Svend Thorsby has been cut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Matti throws a head kick that misses.
Matti misses with the combination.
Matti looks to land a right hand but Thorsby moved out of range.
Thorsby feinted there with a counter leg kick.

and Thorsby counters with a left to the body.
Matti tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Thorsby was well out of range. Poor timing from Matti.
Matti bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

Matti sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.

Thorsby steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Matti.

Matti rushes Thorsby and presses him up against the cage.
Thorsby is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Come on Thorsby - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Matti fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Matti is trying to push Thorsby away but Thorsby has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Matti is really struggling to land any decent head shots against his taller opponent.

Matti breaks the clinch.

and Matti counters with a nice uppercut.
Thorsby swings for the body but Matti moves out of range.
Matti is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
Thorsby closes the distance but Matti moves to the side
and Matti connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Matti lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Thorsby ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Donk. Matti catches Thorsby right on the button with a cross.
Matti goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Thorsby is looking to counter punch.
Matti connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Thorsby throws a hook but Matti blocks it.

Matti swings and misses with a hook to the body.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

A little jabbing left from Matti on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Matti checks a leg kick.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Parta Matti dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Svend Thorsby's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Whack! Matti lands a heavy head kick that drops Thorsby. The ref tackles Matti to stop the fight - a great save by the referee because Thorsby was done.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:05 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Head Kick). Parta Matti!
