PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jamil Hurst (ranked 2022 p4p, 2042 weight class) and Julius Lew (ranked 298 p4p, 302 weight class). Hurst comes to the cage accompanied by Keep Their Heads Ringin'. Julius Lew told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jamil Hurst!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Julius Lew!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Ian Loll and Steve Smith.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hurst misses the shot to the body.
Hurst moves forwards but Lew connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Lew throws a shot from downtown. Hurst moves away and avoids it.
A clash of legs there as Hurst blocks the low kick.
Hurst works Lew's body with a nice hook.
Lew with a nice calf kick.
Hurst takes one to the side of the head.
Julius Lew seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Lew tries to clinch but Hurst is having none of it.
Hurst looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Lew is fending him off so far but Hurst persists. Nope, Lew circles away and we're back to standing.
Hurst slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Hurst fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

and Hurst counters with a single leg into guard. Lew didn't expect that.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Lew had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Hurst defends it easily.
Hurst controlling from the top position.

Lew is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Hurst is aware though and is defending well.
Hurst scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

Lew escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hurst gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Lew has an active guard here but Hurst has managed to pass into half guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Hurst drops an elbow to the side of Lew's head.
Lew slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Hurst is working Lew over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Hurst trying to control the position from guard on top but Lew is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Lew has his foot on Hurst's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Hurst works his way back into a safe position though.

Hurst stands up over Lew, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Hurst makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Lew has his foot on Hurst's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Hurst works his way back into a safe position though.

Hurst drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Lew manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Hurst has Lew in his guard.

Hurst wants to sweep here but Lew controlling him for the moment.

Hurst has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Lew should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Hurst has tightened it up now! Lew should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
