The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mayer throws a jab when Balada was well out of range.
Mayer closes the distance and clinches up with Balada, looking for a takedown. Mayer pushes Balada against the cage but Balada circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Balada attempts a counter takedown but Mayer avoids it well and moves away.
Mayer throws a hook but Balada avoids it easily.
Balada half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Balada steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Mayer.
Balada drops down looking for a counter takedown but Mayer sprawls and moves away.
Mayer goes for a double leg but Balada avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Balada continues to drive forward.
Mayer shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Balada as he avoids it easily.
Tony Balada has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Max Mayer.
