PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Dick Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Josh Koscheck (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Johnson might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Mosh. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dick Johnson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Josh Koscheck!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Cecil Peabody and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnson just misses with a punch to the body.
Johnson fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Koscheck closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Johnson is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Koscheck asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Koscheck lands a few punches from side control.
Johnson is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Koscheck is controlling him well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Koscheck really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Johnson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Koscheck wants to lay and pray for a moment but Johnson keeps working.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
The fighters circling - Johnson throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

Koscheck thuds a left hand into Johnson's body.
Johnson thuds his right hand into Koscheck's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

Koscheck has closed the distance and engaged Johnson in a clinch.
Johnson tries to score a body lock takedown but Koscheck shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Koscheck manages to break the clinch.
Koscheck is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Johnson throws a series of punches but Koscheck avoids them all with ease.
Johnson throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Johnson is breathing heavily.

Koscheck drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Koscheck connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Johnson some visible discomfort.
Koscheck prevents Johnson from escaping the position.
Johnson trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
Koscheck landing a few strikes.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Koscheck slows the pace down.

Koscheck wants to lay and pray for a moment but Johnson keeps working.
Johnson is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Koscheck is controlling him well.
Koscheck is staying tight to Johnson's torso, preventing him from escaping.

Koscheck working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Johnson is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Koscheck is controlling him.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Koscheck looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Johnson with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Johnson tries to kick Koscheck off but Koscheck keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Koscheck looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Johnson!

Koscheck won't let Johnson get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

You get the feeling that Johnson really doesn't like being in this position too much.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Koscheck with a couple of short strikes.
Johnson wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Josh Koscheck showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Johnson has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Koscheck is proving hard to escape from.
Josh Koscheck is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Johnson wants to get up but he can't break Koscheck's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Koscheck has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Johnson can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Koscheck feints and as Johnson raises his hands in defense, Koscheck changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Dick Johnson has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

I've got Koscheck winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
