PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Frank Dux (ranked 1066 p4p, 1720 weight class) and Smashy Cartwright (ranked 119 p4p, 187 weight class). Cartwright is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by The Hammer. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dux fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Cartwright on the side of the head.
Dux fails with an attempt to clinch.
Cartwright avoids a punch combination nicely.

Dux throws a head punch that misses.
Dux tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.

Cartwright's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A jab lands there for Dux.
Cartwright uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Dux.
Cartwright shoots in and drives through. Dux sprawls well.
Cartwright throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Dux tries to clinch but Cartwright moves out of range.

That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Cartwright crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Dux - the referee stops the clock and Cartwright gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Dux. Cartwright manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Dux throws a push kick but Cartwright slaps the foot to one side.
Cartwright moves away from the strike by Dux.
Dux avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Dux lunges at Cartwright with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Cartwright's hand.
Cartwright throws a body shot but no joy.
Frank Dux is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Cartwright shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Dux throws a jab but it's blocked by Cartwright.
Dux swings and misses with a hook to the body.

and Cartwright cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Dux thuds his right hand into Cartwright's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

Dux tries to move into range but Cartwright moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.

Cartwright clinches up with Dux and pushes him back against the cage.

Dux gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Dux misses with an uppercut.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Cartwright! But no joy.
Cartwright walks into a straight right hand from Dux.
Dux throws a body kick that misses.
Cartwright keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
A little jabbing left from Cartwright on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Dux.

Cartwright clinches up with Dux and pushes him back against the cage.
Dux pushes Cartwright back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.

Cartwright manages to break the clinch.
Frank Dux seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Dux takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Dux scores with a slapping inside leg kick.

Dux gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Cartwright to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Dux is looking for a triangle but Cartwright pushes his legs off easily.
Cartwright loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Dux is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Dux is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Reach Around that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.
