Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Alexander The Great (ranked 3524 p4p, 4110 weight class) and Texas Poontapa (ranked 464 p4p, 518 weight class). Texas Poontapa has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Alexander The Great!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Texas Poontapa!
The judges for this bout are David Hoff, Peter Branson and Michael Johnstone.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Poontapa looks to score with a jab to the body but The Great is just out of range.

Poontapa moves into range and clinches up with The Great.
Poontapa scores with a shoulder strike.

The Great breaks the clinch.
Poontapa goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
The Great shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Poontapa as he jumps to the side.

Poontapa closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Poontapa lands a nice uppercut.
Poontapa lands a body shot in the clinch.
Poontapa lands a right hand that snaps the head of The Great backwards.
The Great is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

The Great breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Poontapa tries to close the distance and clinch up but The Great swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Poontapa gets caught flat footed, as The Great shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Poontapa looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
The Great tries to free his leg and advance position but Poontapa is retaining full guard.
The Great throws a big right hand that misses.

The Great throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Poontapa looking to hit a scissor sweep but The Great is one step ahead there.
Poontapa has momentary wrist control but The Great slips an elbow through the middle.
The Great has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.
The Great has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
The Great controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
The Great loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Poontapa can do anything to dispel that myth.
Poontapa has momentary wrist control but The Great slips an elbow through the middle.
The Great trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
The Great is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
The Great scoring with some ground and pound.

The Great postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
The Great stands up over Poontapa, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
The Great scoring with punches to the head and body.
The Great throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
The Great in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
The Great seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The Great is staying tight to Poontapa's torso, preventing him from escaping.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The Great looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Poontapa is avoiding damage well.
The Great landing strikes.

The Great tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
The Great tries to score with some ground and pound. Poontapa controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Poontapa looks winded!

Poontapa takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Poontapa takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Poontapa really doesn't want to stay on the ground with The Great. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
The Great advances to full mount.
A nice elbow there by The Great.
The Great has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Poontapa's face.
The Great lands a nice shot to the head.

Poontapa is rocked!

It looks like Texas Poontapa has been cut.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The Great postures up and connects with a big shot that has rocked Poontapa badly. He's trying desperately to grab hold of The Great around the waist but The Great pushes him off and unloads with more strikes, forcing the referee to jump in and save him! The Great is the winner by TKO! The Great jumps onto the cage and shouts into the camera. "We did it momma!"

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Alexander The Great!
Texas Poontapa was interviewed post fight and said 'That guys a dick. I was supposed to be undefeated.'.
