PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kim Carlsen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cronus Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jones has chosen Never Thought About Going Back as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Kim Carlsen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Cronus Jones!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Andrew Berry and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Carlsen shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Jones on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Carlsen lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Jones is trying to stand.
Carlsen is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Carlsen knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Jones on the ground.

Jones kicks Carlsen off and gets back to his feet.

Carlsen darts in and clinches Jones up against the cage.
Jones with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Carlsen is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Jones pulls him back up using the underhooks.
A nice left hand lands by Jones.
Carlsen blocks a couple of punches on the inside.

Carlsen works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Jones had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Carlsen is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Jones Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Carlsen's back instead.

Carlsen looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
Carlsen is trying to break free.

Jones has the hooks in. Carlsen is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Jones has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Carlsen has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Carlsen is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Jones gets his way!
Carlsen rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.

Jones is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Carlsen doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Jones.

Carlsen is defending against the submission attempts here by Jones.
It looks like Jones is going to stand back up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Carlsen is trying to control but Jones manages to pass to mount!
Jones pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

Jones is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!
Carlsen circles away from the clinch attempt

and Carlsen counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Carlsen.

Carlsen manages to pull guard.

Carlsen has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Jones is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Carlsen.

Jones stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Jones gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Carlsen drops down looking for an ankle pick but Jones pulls his leg out and moves away.
Cronus Jones is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Jones closes the distance and clinches.
Carlsen drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kim Carlsen. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Carlsen takes a knee right on the jaw!
Carlsen can't get the takedown.

Jones throws a punch but it's blocked by Carlsen.

Carlsen has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Jones avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Carlsen has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Jones regains guard immediately.
Jones looking to hit a scissor sweep but Carlsen is one step ahead there.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Carlsen stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Jones swivels though and keeps the full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Cronus Jones will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

Jones looking for a guillotine here but Carlsen defends easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Carlsen controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Cronus Jones has got the better of the ground game so far.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Jones is on top in guard.

Jones stands up and waves to Carlsen to follow him.
Jones fails with an attempt to clinch.
Carlsen misses with a takedown attempt - Jones sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Jones is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Carlsen.

Carlsen has Jones up against the cage in a clinch.
Jones tries to land a knee to the head but misses.

Carlsen tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Jones smiles and moves away.
Carlsen throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Jones's waist but Jones gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Carlsen off to one side.

Jones looks to clinch

and Carlsen counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Carlsen.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Carlsen prevents Jones from getting back to his feet.

Jones looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Carlsen is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Carlsen gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Carlsen looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Jones is fending him off so far but Carlsen persists. Nope, Jones circles away and we're back to standing.

Carlsen darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Carlsen drops an elbow to the side of Jones's head.
Carlsen with the ground and pound but Jones uses the opportunity to regain guard.
Carlsen tries to stand but Jones is controlling from the bottom.

Jones throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Carlsen escapes and throws Jones's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Jones is looking for a sweep.
Jones wants to get back to his feet but Carlsen drags him back down.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Carlsen looks up at the clock and then as Jones takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Carlsen smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Carlsen is looking to take a break and control but Jones is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Jones wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Jones is trying to improve his position.

Carlsen has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Carlsen has closed the distance and engaged Jones in a clinch.
Jones misses with a knee strike.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Jones misses with an elbow over the top.
Jones throws a knee to the head but misses.
Carlsen is working for takedown but Jones is calmly controlling the position for now.
Jones tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Jones prevents a takedown attempt there.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Kim Carlsen will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Jones has taken the fight to the clinch.
Jones lands with a short head shot on the inside.
A knee to the head by Jones.


Carlsen is rocked!
Jones connects with a knee to the head.
Oh Carlsen is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Jones lands an uppercut.
Jones has the Thai clinch. He lands a big knee to the head that stumbles Carlsen - he's in trouble! Another big knee to the head from Jones, and another! Carlsen is out on his feet - the ref jumps in to save him and ends the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:26 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Knees). Cronus Jones!
