Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Valdema Severino!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ricardo Riveira!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Felipe Paraventi and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Riveira moves in looking to clinch but Severino pushes him off.

Severino changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Riveira looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Severino has the hooks in. Riveira is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

Riveira is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Severino gets his way!

Severino has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Severino is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Riveira is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Valdema Severino just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

Riveira working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Severino doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Severino manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Severino accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Severino is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Severino feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Severino drops back looking for a leg! Riveira is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Riveira manages to kick Severino off! Severino jumps back into Riveira's guard.
Ricardo Riveira has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Valdema Severino is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Valdema Severino showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Severino has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
