Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jose Oliviera (ranked 4513 p4p, 3515 weight class) and Master Bates (ranked 0 p4p, 422 weight class). Master Bates told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jose Oliviera! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Master Bates! The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, Santiago Holmes and Dirk Anderson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Oliviera scores with a head kick. Bates tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
It looks like Master Bates has been cut. Oliviera fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Oliviera moves in looking to clinch but Bates pushes him off. Oliviera instigates a clinch. Oliviera tries to pull guard but Bates won't allow it.
Bates gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Oliviera.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jose Oliviera. That's going to take a lot out of him. Bates has Oliviera pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Oliviera manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Bates is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Oliviera to keep the fight standing. Bates is pressed up against the cage. Oliviera has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Bates down to the mat. Bates avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Oliviera tries to clinch but Bates moves out of range. And Bates tries to counter it with a takedown but Oliviera pushes his down on his head and steps out. Oliviera dives in and scores a takedown into Bates's guard. Bates looking for a sweep. Not yet Bates, not yet. Bates has a closed guard, preventing Oliviera from standing up. Oliviera gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
That's one minute gone in the round. Oliviera stuffs the takedown attempt from Bates. Bates gets slowly back to his feet. As Bates tries to get set, Oliviera tries to push him back and clinch up but Bates manages to avoid the attempt. Oliviera manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Bates on his heels. He'll look to pass Bates's guard now, I'm sure. Bates wants to sweep here but Oliviera controlling him for the moment. Oliviera lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Bates has control of Oliviera's left arm, preventing Oliviera from doing any damage. Oliviera trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bates has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Oliviera doesn't defend quickly enough and Bates has managed to lock this one up! Can Oliviera escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Bates on a fantastic submission victory.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:34 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Master Bates!
