PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Bruno Epolito (ranked 2769 p4p, 4569 weight class) and Niles Standish (ranked 283 p4p, 393 weight class). Niles Standish told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Bruno Epolito! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Niles Standish! The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, David Hoff and Michael Johnstone.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Standish tries to clinch but Epolito is having none of it. Standish avoids a low kick by using good footwork. Epolito sets himself, and Standish steps forward looking for the clinch! Epolito avoids it this time. Epolito misses with a leg kick. Standish is looking to clinch. Epolito definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Epolito connects with a good right hand that stumbles Standish. Standish circles away out of range and recomposes himself. Standish uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Epolito. Epolito keeps the fight on the outside. A chopping leg kick lands by Epolito. Standish tries to clinch there but Epolito circles away.
Epolito swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect. Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Epolito lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Standish has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Standish and we're back underway with a touch of gloves. Epolito throws a head kick that Standish semi-blocks.
Standish has closed the distance and engaged Epolito in a clinch.
Standish tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Epolito smiles and moves away.
Standish pushes Epolito up against the cage in a clinch. Epolito lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Epolito tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked. This has been an exciting period of action! Epolito looking to stall.
Epolito throws a head punch that misses.
That's one minute gone in the round. A head punch on the inside from Epolito fails to land. A nice left hand lands by Epolito.
Epolito scores with an uppercut up the middle. Epolito prevents a body shot from Standish. Standish misses with a short punch on the inside. Epolito misses with some punches.
Still in the clinch, Epolito scores with a nice short uppercut. Epolito's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Standish takes the fight into the clinch. Epolito pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Standish avoids a low kick by using good footwork. A leg kick checked by Standish. Epolito loads up on a big right hand but Standish slips the punch. Standish is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch. Standish moves into the clinch successfully.
A nice left hand lands by Epolito.
Epolito wants to stall.
Standish has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Epolito uses from the top position. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Standish had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Epolito defends it easily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Standish looking for a guillotine here but Epolito defends easily.
Standish is looking for a triangle but Epolito pushes his legs off easily.
Epolito knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Standish on the ground. Standish trying to keep a closed guard but Epolito is proving a slippery customer.
Epolito stopping the sweep attempt from Standish. Standish should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Standish has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Epolito should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Standish has tightened it up now! Epolito should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
