This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the bantamweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Los Angeles, with a TWGC record of 16 wins and 18 losses; Takeya Aoki! And in the blue corner, fighting out of London, with a TWGC record of 9 wins and 8 losses; Bartlomiej Jan!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Ian Loll and Gregory Folan.


The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way.
Jan misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Aoki half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.

Jan looking to score a takedown here. Aoki is defending well but Jan drives through and ends up in Aoki's guard.

Aoki is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Jan wants to pass the guard but Aoki is keeping the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Aoki is on top in guard.

Aoki trying to control but Jan is working from the bottom.
Aoki sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Jan's guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Aoki prevents Jan from improving his position.
Aoki seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Jan does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Jan is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

We've been hearing good reports from Aoki's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Jan tries to hold on but Aoki postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jan tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Jan is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Aoki goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Jan is on top in guard.

Aoki is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Aoki is keen to just control but Jan is a slippery customer.
Aoki wants to free his trapped foot but Jan is holding on for dear life with his legs.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Jan has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.
Aoki frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Aoki wants to control the pace but Jan is squirming around nicely.

Aoki is trying to take his opponent's back.
Jan tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Jan wants to control but Aoki is having none of it.
Aoki will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Jan is in all sorts of trouble here.
Aoki tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Aoki avoids the attempt from Jan to control.
Aoki can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Jan is looking to escape.

Jan wants to control but Aoki is having none of it.
Aoki fails to advance to Jan's back.
Aoki wants to control the pace but Jan is squirming around nicely.

Aoki is working to isolate an arm here. It's a telegraphed submission attempt but he's gone for it anyway - and he's got it! Aoki extends the arm and Jan is forced to tap!

Takeya Aoki was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
