This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the welterweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Montreal, with a TWGC record of 30 wins and 24 losses; Rolf Ottke! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 24 wins and 16 losses; Dick Diaz! The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Micheangelo Fripello and Chris Saunders.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Diaz forces Ottke back against the cage and clinches. Ottke changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Diaz fights it off and pushes away nicely.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Diaz might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Ottke haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Diaz trying to control the position here.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Diaz manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Ottke manages to get himself to full guard.

Diaz tries to pass the half guard into mount. Ottke knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Ottke controlling the position well. Ottke wants to get back to full guard. That's four minutes gone in the round. Diaz wants to pass to mount but Ottke is defending the position. Diaz is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Diaz wants to free his trapped foot but Ottke is holding on for dear life with his legs. Ottke moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
That's five minutes gone in the round. Diaz is fighting to break Ottke's control of his arms but Ottke is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. Ottke wants to improve his position but instead Diaz has moved into half guard.
Ottke is refusing to be controlled, as Diaz sits in half guard. Ottke is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

That's seven minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Diaz in particular looking to stall. Ottke is looking for a sweep. Diaz is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Ottke is trying to control but can't.

That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Ottke is pulling down on Diaz's head. It's preventing any offense from Diaz, at least for the moment. Ottke tries to land a sweep but no joy. Ottke pulls Diaz in close to prevent any damage. Diaz sitting in guard, not really doing much.

Ottke is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Ottke keeping moving, preventing Diaz from controlling successfully. Diaz slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Ottke trying to control the position here.

Diaz is looking to advance position but Ottke won't allow it. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Ottke wants to control but Diaz passes into side.

And that's the end of the fight! Diaz wins on points by 5 to 0. A less than humble Dick Diaz misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities. |
