PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Mikkel Madsen (ranked 24439 p4p, 6881 weight class) and Johnny Grapple (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mikkel Madsen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Johnny Grapple!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Radbod Blank and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Madsen takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

It looks like Mikkel Madsen has been cut.
Grapple misses with a double jab.
Grapple takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Madsen misses with a body shot
and Grapple connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Jab, jab by Grapple - just one landing.
Grapple has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Madsen misses with a straight left.
Grapple takes a swing at Madsen's ribcage but misses.
Grapple drops his hands momentarily and Madsen takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Grapple tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Madsen was well out of range. Poor timing from Grapple.
Grapple uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Madsen.
Madsen changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Grapple throws a hook to the side of Madsen's head but Madsen sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Madsen ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Grapple moves away.
Madsen showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Grapple.
Grapple connects with a body shot that sends Madsen's belly button to the back.
Grapple throws a shot from downtown. Madsen moves away and avoids it.
Madsen throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Grapple sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Madsen misses with a right hand
and Grapple counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Grapple avoids the body shot from Madsen.
Grapple fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Madsen doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Grapple throws an overhand right that lands on Madsen's shoulder, as Madsen tries to avoid the shot.
Madsen is looking to counter punch.
Madsen throws a big shot that misses.
Madsen wants to clinch up but Grapple keeps it at a distance.
Danga de danga de dang - Grapple scores with a four punch combination!
Grapple throws a jab when Madsen was well out of range.
Grapple throws a jab when Madsen was well out of range.
Madsen lands with an overhand left.
Madsen tries to close the distance and clinch but Grapple swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Madsen swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Madsen looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

Grapple displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Madsen throws out the jab.
Madsen walks into a left hand.
Grapple ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Madsen moves out of range as Grapple strikes.
Grapple throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Grapple scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Madsen doesn't seem bothered though.
A slow jab from Madsen misses its intended target.
Grapple scores with the left hand. Madsen knows he should have avoided that one.
Grapple loads up on a big right hand but Madsen slips the punch.
Madsen takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

Madsen is rocked!
Madsen drops his hands momentarily. Grapple doesn't need a second invitation, landing a shot to the temple. Madsen staggers and falls to the mat and the ref dives in to save him from any more punishment. Madsen doesn't seem happy with the stoppage but he was done.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:50 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Johnny Grapple!
During a confident post fight interview, Johnny Grapple thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
