Coming up we have a featherweight kickboxing rules bout between Elgin Turner (ranked 522 p4p, 1873 weight class) and George Backman (ranked 64 p4p, 214 weight class). Turner's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Wu-Tang Clan - Da Mystery Of Chessboxin'. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 46 - 13 - 2, fighting out of Hilo, Elgin Turner! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 16 - 16 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, George Backman! The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Emerson Jorge and Leandro Rodrigues.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Backman moves into range and lands a nice leg kick. Turner throws a body shot but no joy. Backman uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Turner.
Turner throws a leg kick that is checked and Backman finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body. Backman swinging wildly here.

Turner blocks a low kick nicely. Backman has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Turner is landing a low percentage of strikes. Backman lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Turner circles away quickly and effectively. Turner getting the better of the striking in that exchange. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Turner uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Backman has time to react. Backman ducks under a wild hook from Turner. Backman unleashes a big counter combination but Turner bobs and weaves and avoids any damage. Turner moves out of range of the strikes. That kick from Turner tenderised Backman's leg. Backman is trying to keep his angry face on. Backman stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Turner. Backman blocks a leg kick. Backman walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head. The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end. Turner takes a swing at Backman's ribcage but misses. Turner clobbers Backman with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise. Backman lands a head kick that bluckles Turner and drops him to the canvas. He's still conscious but it looks like it's going to take him the full 10 seconds to get back his senses! He's up on 9 and seems to be just about OK to continue.... the referee agrees and we're back to the action with Backman no doubt looking to push for a finish!

Having scored a knockdown, George Backman should take round 1, putting pressure on his opponene back strong in round 2. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Turner loads up on a big right hand but Backman slips the punch.
It looks like Elgin Turner has been cut. George Backman seems to be getting the better of the standup. Backman slips under a jab. Turner fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Backman on the side of the head. Turner misses with a wild body shot. It seemed like Backman was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it. Elgin Turner seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Turner lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Backman throws a lazy right hand but Turner sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. It looked like Turner wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit. Backman throws a right hand that Turner ducks under and follows up with a left that Turner also avoids with ease. George Backman is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Turner takes a kick to the side of the head. Oh Turner is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Backman throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Turner moves out of range of the strikes.
