Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, JR Velasquez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dan Flo! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and .
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Flo fails to land the takedown. Velasquez fails with the takedown and Flo counters with a single leg into guard. Velasquez didn't expect that. Flo wants to control from the top but Velasquez keeps moving. Flo throws a big right hand that misses. Flo stands up from Velasquez's guard - Flo perhaps looking for a knockout. Velasquez is breathing heavily. Flo gets a takedown into half guard. Flo is working for a submission of some sort.
That's one minute gone in the round. Flo perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Flo wants to take a breather but Velasquez is having none of it. Flo thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Velasquez's head. Flo postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Velasquez to stand up. A head kick misses from Flo. Flo changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Velasquez looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Velasquez is looking for a sweep. Flo decides to take the fight back to the feet. Flo wants to clinch up but Velasquez keeps it at a distance. Flo scores a takedown into full mount! Flo working for a guillotine from mount but Velasquez is in no mood to give up. Flo in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Flo can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Velasquez is looking to escape. Flo controlling from the full mount. Flo working away from the top, dropping strikes. Velasquez wants to hold on but Flo pushes him away.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Flo trying to control but he's not successful this time. Velasquez tries to reverse the position but Flo maintains control. Flo trying to control but Velasquez is having none of it. Velasquez wants to control but Flo is having none of it. Flo working away from the top, dropping strikes. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Dan Flo dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Flo fails with the takedown and Velasquez counters with a single leg into guard. Flo didn't expect that. Flo striking from his own guard. Velasquez trying to control but Flo is working from the bottom. Velasquezis looking to pass into half guard but Flo pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Flo is in guard. Flo trying to control the position from guard on top but Velasquez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Velasquez looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Flo passes into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Flo is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Velasquez is trying to escape and Flo transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Velasquez is forced to tap! Nice work there by Flo! Very nice indeed!
