PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between John Doe (ranked 830 p4p, 2301 weight class) and Jim Beam (ranked 137 p4p, 319 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, John Doe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 13 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Jim Beam!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Colin Fotheringham and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Beam rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
letting Doe counter with a right hand.
We've been told by Doe's head coaches at 3Band MMA that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Doe blocks a low kick nicely.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Beam.
Beam misses with a straight left.
Beam throws a head kick but Doe moves out of range.
Doe swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Doe misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Beam.
Beam lands a head shot.
A combination from Doe does no damage.
Beam dives in for a single leg takedown but Doe sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Doe thuds a left hand into Beam's body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Doe moves out of range of the body kick.
Beam shoots in looking for a takedown. Doe tries to sprawl out of it but Beam keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Doe manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Doe swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
John Doe has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jim Beam.
Beam misses with a leg kick

and Doe counters by moving into the clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Beam tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Doe's elbow.
Beam lands a left hand that snaps the head of Doe backwards.
Beam misses with an elbow over the top.
Beam tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Doe just stands there and leans against the cage.
Beam misses with a hook to the ribs.
Doe blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Beam tries a body shot but Doe blocks it.
Doe prevents Beam from breaking the clinch.
Doe prevents Beam from breaking the clinch.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Beam.
Beam misses with a hook to the ribs.
Doe doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
A short uppercut from Beam.
Doe misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Doe blocking some punches.
Beam has a couple of punches blocked by Doe.
Beam fails to pull guard.
Doe lands with a short punch from the clinch.
A short body shot lands from Doe as the two fighters clinch.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Beam.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Doe avoiding damage.
Doe gets through Beam's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Beam blocks a body shot from Doe.
Beam can't find room to land a body shot as Doe controls the action.

Doe breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Doe sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Beam misses with a body shot.
It looked like Doe was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Beam.

Beam throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Doe tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Beam is in Doe's guard.
Doe bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Beam's guard.

Beam wants to sweep but no luck.
Doe sitting in guard, not really doing much.

Beam is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Doe has his hands clasped together but Beam extends and breaks Doe's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Beam.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Jim Beam!
A very excited looking Jim Beam rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
