PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Shane Lancaster (ranked 5311 p4p, 5360 weight class) and Robert Nesta (ranked 608 p4p, 610 weight class). Lancaster comes into the arena with Slipknot - I Am Hated blaring out of the sound system. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Shane Lancaster!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Robert Nesta!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Saam Ante and Radbod Blank.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Lancaster scores with a takedown into Nesta's guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Lancaster stopping the sweep attempt from Nesta.
Lancaster throws a strike but Nesta rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Lancaster bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Nesta's guard.

Nesta controls Lancaster momentarily but Lancaster frees himself.
Lancaster controls from within his opponent's guard.
Lancaster stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Nesta swivels though and keeps the full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lancaster throws a strike but Nesta rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Lancaster wants to stand up but Nesta is controlling him.

Nesta not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Lancaster is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Lancaster takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Lancaster thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Nesta's head.
Lancaster wants to lay and pray for a moment but Nesta keeps working.

Lancaster throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Nesta wants to get back to full guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Nesta can do anything to dispel that myth.
Lancaster is trying to control. Nesta wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Lancaster in particular looking to stall.

Lancaster looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Nesta with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Nesta has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Lancaster is working away from the top position though.
Nesta felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Nesta wants to improve his position but Lancaster is controlling well.

Lancaster has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Nesta regains half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Nesta is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Nesta goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Nesta swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Lancaster half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Nesta slips under a jab from Lancaster.
Lancaster closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Nesta punishes Lancaster's body with a nice straight punch.
Nesta fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Lancaster is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Nesta can do to turn this around?
A swing and a miss from Lancaster.

Lancaster shoots in and bounces Nesta off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Nesta wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Lancaster manages to pass to side control.

Nesta is looking to control Lancaster's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Nesta avoid being mounted?

Nesta on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Nesta really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Lancaster. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Nesta is refusing to be controlled, as Lancaster sits in half guard.

Nesta is controlling Lancaster's trapped leg to prevent Lancaster from advancing to side control.
Lancaster perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Lancaster seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Nesta does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Lancaster looking to finish here with some ground and pound. He lands one big shot that has Nesta covering up... and two more big strikes land, forcing the referee to step in and put and end to proceedings! This fight is all over!
