Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Magnum P I (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Thor Wood (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wood has chosen Own little World as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both these fighters are unbeaten, so somebody's 0 has got to go!Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
P I misses with a series of wild punches.

P I shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. P I showed some decent athleticism there.
P I trying to mount his opponent but Wood defends it.
Wood wants to control but P I is keeping busy.
P I is trying to control the action in half guard but Wood is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

P I sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Wood defending well though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

P I seems to be working for a kimura but Wood defends the submission attempt.

P I is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
P I is trying to control the action in half guard but Wood is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

P I is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Wood sees it coming and defends easily.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
P I steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Wood. That one must have hurt.
P I avoids the body shot from Wood.
Thor Wood is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
P I shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Wood but Wood pushes him off and we're back to square one.
P I swinging wilding here.
A decent looking cross lands there for Wood.
P I throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Wood on the side of the head.

A slapping body kick lands there for Wood.
Wood fails with an attempt to clinch.
A jab from P I misses.
Wood throws a body punch but P I moves out of range.
Wood lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
P I lands a with a good body shot.
Wood scoring well with a low kick there.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Wood. P I shrugs it off though.
P I is breathing heavily.
P I shoots in looking for a takedown. Wood tries to sprawl out of it but P I keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Wood manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Wood pulls out of a head kick attempt.

P I takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Wood tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
The fighters circling - P I throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Nice body kick there by Wood.
Wood connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Wood wants to clinch up but P I keeps it at a distance.

P I drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Wood manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now P I has Wood in his guard.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Wood walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. P I checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Wood misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

and P I counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Wood thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on P I if he has to take too many more of those.
P I lands a jab to Wood's midsection.
P I with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Wood to score with a decent uppercut.

P I shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Wood manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Wood really doesn't want to stay on the ground with P I. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Wood keeping moving, preventing P I from controlling successfully.

P I stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Wood swivels though and keeps the full guard.

P I drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and P I jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
P I keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Wood.

P I lands the left hand.

P I takes a kick to the side of the head.

Magnum P I seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
P I looks to score with a jab to the body but Wood is just out of range.
P I throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Wood sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Wood throws a leg kick that misses.
Wood misses the shot to the body.
P I throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Wood.
P I throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
P I shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Wood falls off balance throwing a combination
and P I counters with a stiff right hand.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Magnum P I will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Wood keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
P I walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
P I misses the jab.
Wood is looking to chop away at P I's legs.
P I takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
P I throws a nice looking combination but Wood bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
P I lands a right hook to the body.

and Wood counters with a leg kick.
P I misses the shot to the body.
Wood staying out of range there.
P I will be looking to protect his midsection after taking some solid kicks to the body.

Wood turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Thor Wood seems to be getting the better of the standup.

P I thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
P I tries to move into full mount but can't pass Wood's legs.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

P I is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Wood knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

A close third round but Thor Wood just about did enough to take it.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

and P I counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

and Wood counters with a slapping leg kick.
A slow jab from P I misses its intended target.
P I throws a body punch but Wood moves out of range.

Wood takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Wood buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.

P I slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.

P I is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.

P I closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
You can see the frustration on Wood's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

P I tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no P I has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Wood leaves P I with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

P I tries to score a power double leg takedown but Wood sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten P I somewhat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Magnum P I. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Both of our modern day gladiators look out of it here - an gruelling 5 rounds of action taking it's toll on them, no doubt.
