PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Lio Rush (ranked 4542 p4p, 4504 weight class) and Bob Robby (ranked 266 p4p, 0 weight class). Rush comes to the cage accompanied by The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Lio Rush! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Bob Robby! The judges for this bout are Bart Greer, Michael Johnstone and Sandra Marshall.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Robby shoots in and gets a takedown into Rush's guard. Robby controls from within his opponent's guard. Robby pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Rush is keeping the position for now. Rush wants to stand but Robby is controlling the position. Robby is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Robby postures up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Robby postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Rush has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Robby can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Rush knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Robby on the ground. Robby postures up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Robby sitting in guard, not really doing much. Robby is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Rush trying to keep a closed guard but Robby is proving a slippery customer.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Robby not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Rush attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin. Rush moves in looking to clinch but Robby pushes him off. Robby drives through with a takedown into Rush's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. Robby is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Robby makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Robby controlling from the top position. Robby wants to stand but Rush has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Robby stopping the sweep attempt from Rush. Robby wants to pass the guard but Rush is keeping the position. Robby cracks Rush with a solid left hand. Rush is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Robby defends well.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Robby is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Robby controls from within his opponent's guard. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Robby's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Robby controlling from the top position. Robby postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Robby stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rush swivels though and keeps the full guard. Robby distracts Rush with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Robby's corner is telling him to maintain position. Robby keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Rush's head. Robby landing some decent shots from guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Robby works a leg free and moves into half guard. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Rush is looking to get back to full guard here but Robby has managed to pass to side control instead. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. A lull in the action here as Robby stalls from top position. Robby goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Rush rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Robby's guard! Nice work there by Rush! And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Bob Robby dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Rush fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Robby to the ground. Rush is now in Robby's guard. Robby is looking for a triangle here but Rush uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Robby wants to control but Rush postures up. Rush throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Robby works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure. Rush prevents Robby from standing back up.
Bob Robby has got the better of the ground game so far. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Robby wants to control but Rush is keeping busy and won't allow it. Robby is not content to let Rush control the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Robby manages to get to full guard.
Rush looking to pass the guard. Rush might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Robby has his hands on Rush's head, controlling the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Robby is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Rush rolls with it to try and escape but Robby cranks on the arm and Rush is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
