PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Nikolaos Leonidas (ranked 4726 p4p, 4522 weight class) and Frank Bullitt (ranked 562 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Nikolaos Leonidas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Frank Bullitt!
The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Paul Gruel and Josh West.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Leonidas shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Bullitt as he jumps to the side.
Leonidas pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Bullitt with the counter takedown but Leonidas avoids it easily.
Frank Bullitt seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Bullitt throws a head kick that looked like it stung.

Leonidas drives through with a takedown into guard.
Bullitt is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Leonidas dives into side control.

Bullitt is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Bullitt is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Bullitt wants to get back to full guard.

Leonidas gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

Bullitt shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Leonidas as he jumps to the side.

Bullitt looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

and Leonidas counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Bullitt is trying to force a seperation but Leonidas has the dominant position.
Leonidas misses with a hook from the clinch.

Leonidas jumps into guard, dragging Bullitt to the mat.
Leonidas keeping moving, preventing Bullitt from controlling successfully.

Leonidas is adopting a defensive guard.

Bullitt wants to stand but Leonidas is controlling his posture from full guard.

Leonidas had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Bullitt defends it easily.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Leonidas is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Bullitt closes the distance and clinches up with Leonidas, looking for a takedown. Bullitt pushes Leonidas against the cage but Leonidas circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Bullitt fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Bullitt does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Leonidas lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Bullitt circles away quickly and effectively.

Nikolaos Leonidas has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Frank Bullitt.
Leonidas fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Bullitt has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Frank Bullitt seems to be getting the better of the standup.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Leonidas leaves Bullitt with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Leonidas looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Leonidas is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Bullitt can do to turn this around?
Bullitt trying to control the position from guard on top but Leonidas is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Nikolaos Leonidas overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Bullitt gets to his feet. Leonidas looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Leonidas wants to control from the top but Bullitt keeps moving.

Leonidas stands up and waves to Bullitt to follow him.

Leonidas moves into range and clinches up with Bullitt.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Leonidas tries to pull guard but Bullitt holds him up against the cage and eventually Leonidas drops back down to his feet.
Leonidas is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Bullitt is defending well for now.
Leonidas prevents Bullitt from breaking the clinch.
Leonidas jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Bullitt walks away with a smile on his face. Leonidas gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Leonidas rushes Bullitt and presses him up against the cage.
Leonidas goes for a takedown in the clinch but Bullitt prevents it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Bullitt looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Bullitt on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Nikolaos Leonidas dominated that second round.
That's time! Leonidas's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Bullitt shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Leonidas as he avoids it easily.
Nikolaos Leonidas is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
A nice leg kick from Bullitt, right into the meat of the thigh.
Bullitt throws a head kick but Leonidas moves out of range.
Leonidas tries to counter by clinching up but Bullitt breaks away and moves out of range.

Leonidas keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Bullitt's efforts to push away.
Bullitt is trying to break free.
Leonidas tries to pull guard but Bullitt forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Bullitt takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.

Bullitt fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Leonidas throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Bullitt misses with a two punch combination.
Bullitt throws a hook but Leonidas blocks it.

Leonidas feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Bullitt wants to control but Leonidas is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Leonidas seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Bullitt is looking for a sweep. Leonidas is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Leonidas lands a nice short elbow.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bullitt wants to control but Leonidas is keeping busy.
Leonidas trying to control the pace.
Bullitt is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Leonidas throws a strike but Bullitt avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Leonidas slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Bullitt wants to stand up but Leonidas is controlling him.
Leonidas throws a big right hand that misses.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Bullitt bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Leonidas's guard.

Bullitt drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Leonidas dives on top into guard.

Leonidas passes Bullitt's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Leonidas wants to stand up but Bullitt has a hold of him and won't allow it.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Bullitt is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Leonidas's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Leonidas's back!

And that's the end of the fight!
Nikolaos Leonidas showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Leonidas, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
