Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Finlay McShane! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Khabib Nurmagomedov! The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Tiny Johnson and Frank Dennis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! McShane scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Nurmagomedov wants to control but McShane is keeping busy.
McShane has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. McShane wants to take his opponent's back but Nurmagomedov doesn't allow it. Nurmagomedov blocking the ground and pound. McShane looking to secure an arm triangle but Nurmagomedov defends it well. McShane wants to take Nurmagomedov's back here but Nurmagomedov is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Nurmagomedov is desperately trying to improve his position but McShane has a good base and remains in mount. Nurmagomedov felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it. Nurmagomedov is squirming around, avoiding McShane's attempts to control the action.
That's one minute gone in the round. McShane looking for a guillotine from mount but Nurmagomedov is having none of it. McShane goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Nurmagomedov turns into him and now he's in McShane's guard.
McShane manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Nurmagomedov manages to get himself to full guard.
McShane trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Nurmagomedov tries to land a sweep but no joy. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. McShane wants to control from the top but Nurmagomedov keeps moving. Nurmagomedov really doesn't want to stay on the ground with McShane. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Nurmagomedov lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard. Nurmagomedov is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. McShane is trying to control the position from the bottom.
McShane is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. McShane is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
That's three minutes gone in the round. McShane looking for a triangle here. Nurmagomedov is fighting it but it looks tight! McShane pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Nurmagomedov is tapping out - this one is all over!
