Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Ryder Stephens! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, David Snake! The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, Winston Alpacca and Peter Branson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Snake shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down. Snake fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Stephens checks it well. Snake throws a sloppy head kick and Stephens moves out of range easily. Stephens throws a series of punches but Snake avoids them all with ease. Stephens misses with a wild combination.
Stephens moves out of range of the body kick from Snake.
Snake throws a front kick aimed at Stephens's knee but Stephens avoids it well. Stephens checks a low kick from Snake. David Snake seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Nice sprawl there from Snake as Stephens shoots in. Snake with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
A head kick misses from Snake. Snake throws a leg kick that misses. Snake throws a leg kick that is checked and Stephens counters with a nice double leg into side control. Snake won't be happy with that. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Snake is looking to reverse the position. Stephens moves into full mount! We've been hearing good reports from Stephens's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Snake is trying to escape the mount.
Stephens misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!
