PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Gennady Mikhasevich (ranked 2485 p4p, 2877 weight class) and Vitorio Santos (ranked 347 p4p, 0 weight class). Vitorio Santos is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 33 - 26 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gennady Mikhasevich!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Vitorio Santos!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Robert Twigg and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mikhasevich lands a front kick.
A telegraphed right hand from Santos misses the target.
Santos takes one on the button.

It looks like Vitorio Santos has been cut.
Mikhasevich throws a leg kick which misses Santos's front leg but catches the back leg as Santos tries to avoid it.
Santos takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Mikhasevich lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Santos has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Santos shoots in looking for a takedown. Mikhasevich tries to sprawl out of it but Santos keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Mikhasevich manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A slapping body kick lands there for Mikhasevich.

Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Mikhasevich, as that shot connected.

Mikhasevich connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Santos's hands.

Santos takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
Mikhasevich lands a nice shot to the body.
Mikhasevich connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Santos momentarily.

Santos takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Santos looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Gennady Mikhasevich is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Mikhasevich scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Santos shoots and misses
and Mikhasevich counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Santos gets a double leg takedown into Mikhasevich's guard.
Mikhasevich is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Santos tries to free his leg and advance position but Mikhasevich is retaining full guard.

Mikhasevich has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Santos can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Santos wants to pass the guard but Mikhasevich is keeping the position.
Santos advances position into side control!

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Santos decides to take the fight back to the feet.
A nice leg kick from Mikhasevich, right into the meat of the thigh.
Mikhasevich scores with a nice right hand.

A head kick lands from Mikhasevich that sends Santos to the canvas. Santos tries to scramble back to his feet but Mikhasevich brings him back down into side control.

Santos is rocked!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Santos on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Santos is still in real trouble! Can Mikhasevich finish him?

Mikhasevich is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Santos is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Santos is looking for a sweep.
Santos is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mikhasevich working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Santos wants to improve his position but Mikhasevich is controlling well.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Mikhasevich is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Santos defends it well.
Santos is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Mikhasevich's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Mikhasevich's back!
Santos seems to have recovered his senses.

Santos has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.

Santos looking to break Mikhasevich's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Mikhasevich remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Santos will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mikhasevich defends a prolonged rear naked choke attempt and turns nicely into his opponent's guard.
Mikhasevich wants to pass the guard but Santos is keeping the position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

Mikhasevich uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Santos has time to react.
Mikhasevich lands a nice leg kick that just misses Santos's sensitive parts.
Nice takedown defense from Mikhasevich. No joy for Santos on that attempt.

Santos tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Mikhasevich swivels and escapes.
Mikhasevich appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick.

A nice inside leg kick there by Mikhasevich. That's going to slow Santos down.
Mikhasevich fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Santos.

and Mikhasevich counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Gennady Mikhasevich has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Vitorio Santos.

Mikhasevich grits his teeth and throws a big right-left combo! Santos takes both shots clean on the chin and is out cold! Mikhasevich cracks him once more on his way down, as the crowd goes wild! They enjoyed that one!
