Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Bobby Powell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Katu Pommittaja (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Bobby Powell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Katu Pommittaja!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Anni Minnemäki and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pommittaja takes the fight into the clinch.
Powell is trying to break free.
Pommittaja will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Powell up against the cage.

Powell moves out of range as Pommittaja throws a body kick.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Pommittaja.
Pommittaja stuffs the takedown attempt from Powell. Powell gets slowly back to his feet.

Powell throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Powell gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Pommittaja should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Powell bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Pommittaja's guard.

Powell wants to stand but Pommittaja is controlling his posture from full guard.

Powell shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

so Pommittaja counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Powell has a closed guard, preventing Pommittaja from standing up.
Pommittaja stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Powell swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Powell wants to stand and escape but Pommittaja is having none of it.

Powell lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Pommittaja backs up against the cage.


It looks like Katu Pommittaja has been cut.

Powell tries to bum rush Pommittaja with a series of wild strikes but Pommittaja uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Powell lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Pommittaja circles away quickly and effectively.
Nice takedown defense from Pommittaja. No joy for Powell on that attempt.

Pommittaja tries to close the distance and clinch but Powell swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Powell has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Pommittaja can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Powell lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!

Powell scores with a crisp jab that stopped Pommittaja in his tracks.

Pommittaja has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

and Pommittaja counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Pommittaja shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Pommittaja was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Powell digs a good body shot into Pommittaja's ribs.

Pommittaja feints and as Powell raises his hands in defense, Pommittaja changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Powell is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Powell wants to stand up but Pommittaja is controlling the position.

Pommittaja's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Bobby Powell.
I think Pommittaja has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
