PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gwalchmei Wynne (ranked 3899 p4p, 4993 weight class) and John Nutrion (ranked 508 p4p, 601 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Gwalchmei Wynne!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Nutrion!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Yukihiro Shimada and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wynne throws a lazy right hand but Nutrion sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Nutrion drives through with a takedown into Wynne's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Wynne looking for a sweep. Not yet Wynne, not yet.
Wynne seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Nutrion wants to control from the top but Wynne keeps moving.
Wynne throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Wynne doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Wynne avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Wynne manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Nutrion manages to get himself to full guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Nutrion can do anything to dispel that myth.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wynne controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Wynne has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Wynne's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
This is a sustained period of stalling by Wynne.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
A lazy left from Wynne finds it's target.

Wynne shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Wynne was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Wynne remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Wynne moves into full mount!
Wynne takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Further stalling from Wynne.
If it seems like I'm not saying a lot, it's just because Wynne is stinking the place up with his stalling.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Wynne seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Nutrion for as long as he can get away with.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Gwalchmei Wynne dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Wynne leaves Nutrion with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Wynne cracks Nutrion with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Nutrion keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Wynne jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Wynne lands a nice looking body shot.

Wynne has taken the fight to the clinch.
Wynne is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Nutrion can do to turn this around?

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Nutrion is breathing heavily.
Wynne continues to stall.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Wynne closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
The referee is keeping an eye on Wynne - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Wynne lands a nice uppercut.
Wynne digs a right hand into Nutrion's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Nutrion's gas tank.
Wynne works on Nutrion's body with a couple of short punches.
Wynne lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Nutrion backwards.
Wynne lands on the inside with an uppercut.

Wynne lands a takedown into guard.

Nutrion is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Wynne slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Wynne misses with an uppercut. Nutrion saw that one coming.
Nutrion tries to counter with a clinch but Wynne shakes him off and moves away.
John Nutrion is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Wynne throws a body shot but no joy.
Nutrion walks into a stiff left hand from Wynne.
Nutrion shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Wynne defends it nicely.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Nutrion fails to land the takedown.
Wynne appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Gwalchmei Wynne has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Nutrion.

Wynne clinches up against the cage.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

and Wynne counters with a straight right hand.
Nutrion takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Wynne is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Nutrion.

Wynne has taken the fight to the clinch.

Wynne has clasped his hands together around Nutrion's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Nutrion is trying to get back to half guard.
Wynne controls the position.
Gwalchmei Wynne overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Wynne has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Nutrion!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
More hug and hope from Wynne.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Gwalchmei Wynne showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Wynne has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
