PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Manco Capac (ranked 1437 p4p, 2140 weight class) and Vladimir Rurikovich (ranked 190 p4p, 268 weight class). Capac comes into the arena with Iggy Pop - The Passenger blaring out of the sound system. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Manco Capac!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Vladimir Rurikovich!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Kenichi Hosakawa and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rurikovich is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Rurikovich misses with a lunging right hand
and Capac counters with a straight right hand.

Vladimir Rurikovich seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rurikovich throws a body punch but Capac moves out of range.
We've been hearing reports that Capac has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Rurikovich fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Capac manages to avoid it.
Rurikovich connects with a looping right hand.

Rurikovich doesn't manage to clinch there - Capac circles away.
Capac tries to counter with a takedown but Rurikovich is quick to defend against it.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Capac has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Rurikovich avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Rurikovich.
Capac is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Rurikovich to keep the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Manco Capac. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Capac goes for a takedown attempt but Rurikovich pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Capac is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Rurikovich defends it well.
Rurikovich is staying active underneath Capac, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Capac wants to control the pace but Rurikovich is squirming around nicely.
Capac is really struggling to control Rurikovich but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Capac swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Rurikovich is now in Capac's guard. A big mistake from Capac there, giving up the dominant position!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Capac wants to sweep here but Rurikovich controlling him for the moment.

Capac has his foot on Rurikovich's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Rurikovich works his way back into a safe position though.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Capac is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Rurikovich is aware though and is defending well.

Capac keeping moving, preventing Rurikovich from controlling successfully.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rurikovich might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Capac haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Capac tries to score a power double leg takedown but Rurikovich sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Capac somewhat.
Rurikovich swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Manco Capac will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Capac drives through with a takedown into Rurikovich's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Capac drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Rurikovich manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Capac has Rurikovich in his guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Capac drops back, looking for a kneebar! Rurikovich looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Rurikovich looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Rurikovich!

Rurikovich wants to lay and pray for a moment but Capac keeps working.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
You can see the frustration on Capac's face as Rurikovich controls the position.

Rurikovich is trying to control. Capac wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Manco Capac overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Capac has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Rurikovich is working away from the top position though.

Capac working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Rurikovich doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Rurikovich manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Rurikovich must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

That was a close second round but I would say that Manco Capac will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Capac, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
