PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Harris Reed (ranked 490 p4p, 856 weight class) and Jacques Turcotte (ranked 68 p4p, 112 weight class). Reed comes to the cage accompanied by Beethoven's 5th Symphony. Harris Reed had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Harris Reed!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jacques Turcotte!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Dean Styles and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Reed displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Turcotte throws out the jab.
Turcotte pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Turcotte throws a body punch but Reed moves out of range.
Turcotte loads up on a big right hand but Reed slips the punch.
Turcotte throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Turcotte takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Turcotte throws out a loose jab but Reed uses good head movement to avoid it.
Turcotte scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Reed lands a jab to Turcotte's midsection.
Turcotte swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Reed slips a jab from Turcotte.
Turcotte throws an ugly left hook that misses

and Reed counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Turcotte blocking the ground and pound attempt from Reed.
Reed trying to control the action but Turcotte is working from the bottom.
Reed seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Reed connects with a nice short shot to Turcotte's temple.
Reed is nestled in close to Turcotte, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Reed is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Reed has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Reed is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Turcotte is just riding it out for now. Reed eventually gives up the hold.
Reed throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Reed scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

Reed looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Turcotte avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Reed.
Reed is trying to control. Turcotte wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Turcotte trying to hold on to Reed's head to control him but Reed postures up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Reed throwing shots but Turcotte is blocking nicely.
Reed lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Reed is looking to advance position but Turcotte won't allow it.
Reed slips a nice elbow through Turcotte's hands, connecting with Turcotte's forehead.
Reed frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Turcotte tries to reverse the position but Reed maintains control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Turcotte blocking the ground and pound.
Turcotte holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Reed tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Reed lands with some strikes.

Reed looking to secure an arm triangle but Turcotte defends it well.
Turcotte tries to lock up and control but Reed gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Turcotte controls the position.
Reed scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Turcotte?
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Harris Reed dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Turcotte throws a right and a left that Reed avoids nicely.
Turcotte throws a looping overhand right but Reed ducks down to avoid it.
Reed slips under a jab.
Reed drops down looking for a counter takedown but Turcotte sprawls and moves away.
Turcotte bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Reed's head backwards.
Reed takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Turcotte fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Reed manages to avoid it.
Turcotte throws a big shot that misses.
Reed has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Turcotte finds it's way round the side to connect with Reed's head.
Turcotte throws a lazy uppercut
and Reed counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Turcotte thinking.
Some wild striking there from Reed.
Turcotte tries to counter by closing the distance.
A jab lands there for Turcotte.
Turcotte rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Turcotte takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

It looks like Jacques Turcotte has been cut.
Turcotte might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Reed blocks a jab.
An attempted straight right counter from Reed misses the target.
Turcotte connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.

Turcotte throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Turcotte throws a jab but it's blocked by Reed.
Turcotte throws a looping overhand right but Reed ducks down to avoid it.
Reed tries to counter with a takedown but Turcotte is quick to defend against it.
Turcotte misses with a jab, cross combination.
A little feinted left hand from Reed on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Nice jab there from Turcotte.
Turcotte throws a hook but Reed blocks it.
Jacques Turcotte seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Turcotte throws a right hand that misses
and Turcotte takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Reed slips under a jab.
Turcotte lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Reed circles away quickly and effectively.
Reed ducks under a wild hook from Turcotte.
Turcotte throws out a loose jab but Reed uses good head movement to avoid it.
Jacques Turcotte seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Reed uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Turcotte.
Reed appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.
Reed uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Turcotte.
Reed walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Reed steps in with a hook that catches Turcotte right on the chin and knocks him to the floor! Reed follows him down with more strikes and that's all she wrote! Turcotte looks absolutely devastated.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Harris Reed!
After winning the bout, Harris Reed thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
