PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Everest Frank (ranked 283 p4p, 383 weight class) and Abdullah Zaire (ranked 10 p4p, 12 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Frank might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Knife Talk x Drake ft. 21 Savage x Project Pat. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Everest Frank!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Abdullah Zaire!
The judges for this bout are Topper Green, John Mangel and Ron Honeybunn.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zaire throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Frank's waist but Frank gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Zaire off to one side.
Zaire will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
A counter left hand to the body from Frank misses its target.

Zaire closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Frank gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Zaire trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Frank has given up his back. Will we see Zaire going for some submissions?

Despite being in a bad position, Frank is controlling the hands, preventing any submission attempts.

Zaire is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Frank defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
Will Zaire go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?
Frank knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Zaire on the ground.
Zaire wants to control the position but Frank frees himself and scrambles - Zaire manages to regain control in side control.

The referee asks Zaire politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Zaire prefers to stall for the moment though.

Zaire thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Zaire is trying to get an arm triangle but Frank is defending well.
Zaire is looking to take a break and control but Frank is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Frank is trying to control Zaire's posture but Zaire avoids it.

Zaire goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Frank rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Zaire's guard! Nice work there by Frank!

Frank shoots in for a double leg but Zaire sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Zaire gets caught flat footed, as Frank shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Zaire has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Frank can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Frank got a little sloppy there for a moment and Zaire has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Frank has managed to get both his arms back between Zaire's legs - danger averted.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Frank wants to lay and pray for a moment but Zaire keeps working.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Frank is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Zaire is not content to let Frank control the position.
Zaire moves into full guard.
Zaire is trying to control the position but Frank postures up.
Zaire has his hands on Frank's head, controlling the position.
Zaire has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Zaire wants to control the position but Frank says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.

Frank lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Zaire tries to reverse the position but Frank maintains control.
Zaire has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.

Zaire wants to hold on but Frank pushes him away.
Zaire is looking to get to half guard.
Zaire in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Zaire wants to control but Frank is having none of it.
Frank tries to control but Zaire wriggling away.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Zaire darts in looking for a takedown but Frank gets double underhooks and turns Zaire into the cage.

Frank closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Zaire did well to prevent Frank getting side control.
Everest Frank overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Frank content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

We've been hearing that Frank has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Zaire trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!

Frank can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Zaire is looking to escape.
Zaire can't escape the position.
Frank will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Zaire is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Zaire bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Zaire drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Frank dives on top into guard.

Zaire is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Frank defends well.

Well Frank has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
