PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Hannu Karpo (ranked 1037 p4p, 829 weight class) and James Noir (ranked 136 p4p, 119 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that James Noir was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 15 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Hannu Karpo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 16 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, James Noir!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Ren Mimura and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Karpo swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
A left and a right from Karpo both land. Nice combination.
Karpo throws a lazy head kick
and Noir counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Good leg kick by Karpo.
A swing and a miss from Noir.
Noir cracks Karpo with a good jab.

Karpo scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Noir is looking for a sweep.
Noir looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Karpo is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Karpo lands some shots froms side control.
Karpo has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Karpo is looking to take a break and control but Noir is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Noir tries to bench press Karpo off him but Karpo keeps the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Karpo swings around for an armbar but Noir sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Karpo's guard.
Noir landing with the ground and pound.
Karpo is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Noir accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Karpo has momentary wrist control but Noir slips an elbow through the middle.
Noir scoring with some ground and pound.
Noir missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Karpo wants to sweep but no luck.
Noir trying to control but Karpo is working from the bottom.
Noir working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Karpo's head.
Noir trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Noir connects with a couple of short punches.
Noir throws a strike but Karpo rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Noir looking to control.
We've been hearing that Karpo has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Noir preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Karpo is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Noir has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Karpo is looking to defend but Noir has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Karpo! Noir pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Karpo taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). James Noir!
During a confident post fight interview, James Noir thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
