Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Manny Shooter (ranked 2942 p4p, 2093 weight class) and Anthony Ruiz (ranked 362 p4p, 262 weight class). Shooter comes to the cage accompanied by 5AM in toronto. Ruiz has chosen DB7 - Squid Game Drill as his entrance music. The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 2 - 0 - 1, fighting out of New York, Manny Shooter! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 4 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Anthony Ruiz! The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Stewart Dunkirk and Alan Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Shooter lands a right hook to the body.
Shooter looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Shooter engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Shooter knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ruiz on the ground. Ruiz is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Shooter stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ruiz swivels though and keeps the full guard. Shooter makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Shooter controls from within his opponent's guard. Ruiz trying to keep a closed guard but Shooter is proving a slippery customer.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Shooter is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Shooter has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
That's one minute gone in the round. Shooter's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Shooter looking to pass the guard. Shooter scores with a decent looking elbow strike. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Shooter stopping the sweep attempt from Ruiz. Shooter lands a couple of digs. Shooter content to stall in guard here. Shooter stops Ruiz from standing up. Shooter postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Shooter lands a couple of elbows. Ruiz keeping full guard, as Shooter tries to pass.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Shooter is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Shooter lands a couple of elbows. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Shooter's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Ruiz being controlled here, momentarily. Shooter stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ruiz swivels though and keeps the full guard. Shooter postures up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Shooter landing with the ground and pound. Shooter working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Shooter in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Shooter sitting in guard, not really doing much. Ruiz avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Shooter not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Ruiz is trying to control the position but Shooter postures up.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Ruiz lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range. Shooter on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Ruiz. Ruiz obviously looking to wear him down.
Ruiz lands a leg kick that knocks Shooter off balance momentarily. Shooter lands a jab. Shooter swinging wildly here.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Shooter just misses with a punch to the body.

Shooter looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it. Shooter misses with a straight left. Ruiz scores with a hook to the body. Shooter takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. Shooter misses with an uppercut. Ruiz scores with a kick to the midsection. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Ruiz throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Shooter ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Ruiz moves away. Ruiz avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Anthony Ruiz is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Ruiz blocks a jab. Ruiz throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Shooter slips under a jab. That kick from Ruiz tenderised Shooter's leg. Shooter is trying to keep his angry face on. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Manny Shooter will probably get the nod. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Shooter swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Shooter stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Ruiz. Ruiz feints and then cracks Shooter's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Shooter down. Ruiz goes for a high kick. It partially lands. A slow jab from Shooter misses its intended target. Ruiz has tried to improve his agility in the runup to this fight. Ruiz tries to sprawl but Shooter drives through with a takedown into half guard. Shooter throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Ruiz is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Well, if Shooter is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Ruiz wants to control but Shooter is keeping busy and won't allow it. Shooter stalling.

That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Shooter controlling the action here. Shooter scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Shooter trying to control the pace. Shooter is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Shooter takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Ground and pound from Shooter. Shooter missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Shooter tries to pass to full mount but Ruiz defends it. Shooter is taking a breather. Ruiz says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Shooter throwing shots but Ruiz is blocking nicely. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Ruiz is trying to get back to full guard. Shooter is figuring out what he wants to do next. Ruiz makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Ruiz. Shooter sitting in guard, not really doing much. Ruiz keeping moving, preventing Shooter from controlling successfully. Shooter has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Shooter sitting in guard here, content to control. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Shooter distracts Ruiz with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Ruiz looking to control.

Manny Shooter dominated that second round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round! Ruiz throws a leg kick which misses Shooter's front leg but catches the back leg as Shooter tries to avoid it. Shooter throws a poor cross that misses
and Ruiz counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Shooter takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. A solid leg kick lands there for Ruiz.
Ruiz plants his feet and lands a nice head kick! Shooter throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Ruiz was covering up waiting for the punch and Shooter finishes the takedown easily into guard. Shooter engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Shooter passes easily into side control. Nice work. Ruiz being controlled for a moment. Shooter wants to control but Ruiz is keeping him busy.
That's one minute gone in the round. Shooter lands a few punches from side control. Shooter trying to control the action but Ruiz is working from the bottom. Ruiz tries to buck Shooter off but Shooter is having none of it. Ruiz struggling a bit here. Shooter controls the position from side control. Shooter lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Ruiz down.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Ruiz tries to buck Shooter off but Shooter is having none of it. Shooter trying to control the position but Ruiz is working away. Ruiz is looking for a sweep. Shooter scores with a couple of short elbows. Shooter looks up at the clock and then as Ruiz takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Shooter smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Shooter connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Ruiz some visible discomfort.
Ruiz can't do much from the bottom here. Shooter landing a few strikes. Shooter fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Ruiz is not content to let Shooter control the position. Shooter controlling the position from side mount.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Shooter grinds an elbow into Ruiz's temple. Shooter is working Ruiz over with some ground and pound from side control. Shooter wants to lay and pray for a moment but Ruiz keeps working. Ruiz tries to improve position but can't. Shooter wants to control but Ruiz is keeping him busy. Shooter in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows. Shooter controlling from side mount. Shooter misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Shooter tries to move into full mount but can't pass Ruiz's legs. Shooter landing a few strikes. Ruiz is trying to get back to half guard. Shooter working the ground and pound. Shooter landing a few strikes. Ruiz wants to get back to his feet. Ruiz defending against the ground and pound. Ruiz takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Shooter cracks Ruiz with a big right hand but Ruiz just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Ruiz is rocked! Shooter remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while. Anthony Ruiz has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Manny Shooter is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Ruiz is still in real trouble! Can Shooter finish him? Shooter lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Ruiz down.
And that's the end of the fight! Manny Shooter showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Shooter, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
