PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Magomed Khamzatov (ranked 4033 p4p, 3591 weight class) and Antonio Ray (ranked 487 p4p, 442 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Magomed Khamzatov has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Magomed Khamzatov seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Magomed Khamzatov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Antonio Ray!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Ian Loll and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ray pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Khamzatov feinted with a counter takedown.
Khamzatov changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Ray tries to avoid it but Khamzatov manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Ray to the ground. Ray escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Khamzatov takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Magomed Khamzatov seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Khamzatov shoots in but Ray avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Ray throws out a counter right but Khamzatov avoids it with no problem.
Khamzatov darts in looking for a takedown but Ray gets double underhooks and turns Khamzatov into the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Magomed Khamzatov. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Ray breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Khamzatov fails with the takedown.
Ray misses with an uppercut

and Khamzatov counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Khamzatov engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Khamzatov's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Ray not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Khamzatov has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Ray wants to control but Khamzatov passes easily into half guard.
Khamzatov definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Khamzatov is taking a breather. Ray says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Khamzatov stops Ray from getting back to his feet.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Khamzatov is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
If it seems like I'm not saying a lot, it's just because Khamzatov is stinking the place up with his stalling.
Ray wants to get back to full guard but Khamzatov has mounted him!
Ray tries to hold on but Khamzatov postures up.
Khamzatov controlling the pace for now.
Khamzatov unloads with some shots from mount but Ray bucks and avoids them well.
Khamzatov looking to finish Ray with some ground and pound. This is bad for Ray!
Ray takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Ray is trying to escape the mount.
Khamzatov controlling the pace for now.
Ray is looking to get to half guard.
Khamzatov is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Khamzatov content just to control the position here.
Khamzatov lands a big elbow.

BOOM! Khamzatov connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Khamzatov postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Ray looks a forlorn figure.
Khamzatov lands a nice shot to the head.

Ray is desperately trying to improve his position but Khamzatov has a good base and remains in mount.

Khamzatov lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Khamzatov fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
This has been an exciting period of action!

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Ray throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Ray throws a sloppy head kick and Khamzatov moves out of range easily.

Khamzatov shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Ray's guard.
Ray is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Khamzatov dives into side control.

A lull in the action here as Khamzatov stalls from top position.
Khamzatov is chipping away with strikes.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Khamzatov fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Khamzatov takes a little break here. Ray wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Magomed Khamzatov overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Khamzatov postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Khamzatov controls the position.

Khamzatov is working to tighten his grip on Ray's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Ray has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Khamzatov is really squeezing tight and eventually Ray passes out! Khamzatov breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:39 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Magomed Khamzatov!
Magomed Khamzatov decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
