PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jamal Hudak (ranked 913 p4p, 3010 weight class) and Reinaldo Gracie (ranked 108 p4p, 307 weight class). Gracie has chosen Apaga Mas Não Bate as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jamal Hudak!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Reinaldo Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Dean Styles and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hudak uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Gracie.
Hudak was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
Gracie throws out a loose jab but Hudak uses good head movement to avoid it.
A little feinted left hand from Hudak on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.

Gracie rushes Hudak and presses him up against the cage.
Gracie lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Gracie misses with some punches.
Gracie stalling in the clinch but Hudak improves position.

Gracie turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Hudak sneaks back into half guard.
Hudak has hold of Gracie's hands but Gracie slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Gracie passes to side control.
Hudak tries to get back to half guard but can't.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hudak is working hard here to advance position.

Hudak is being controlled here.
Hudak tries to bench press Gracie off him but Gracie keeps the position.

Hudak tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Gracie presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Hudak is wriggling around trying to escape.
Hudak slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Hudak is looking for a sweep. Gracie is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Gracie is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Hudak sees it coming and defends easily.
Gracie looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Hudak wants to improve his position but Gracie is controlling well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Hudak trying to get back to full guard but Gracie takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!

Gracie working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
Gracie manages to capitalize on a mistake by Hudak to take his back!
Hudak trying to control the hands but Gracie breaks the grip.
Hudak tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Hudak is in all sorts of trouble here.
Hudak is controlling an arm, preventing Gracie from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.

Gracie tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Hudak slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Gracie wants to free his trapped foot but Hudak is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Gracie looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Hudak tries to roll over but Gracie keeps him under control.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Hudak works his way to full guard. Good work.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Gracie looks to clinch
and Hudak cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
The fight stays on the outside here - Gracie looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
A counter left hand to the body from Hudak misses its target.
Gracie closes the distance and clinches up with Hudak, looking for a takedown. Gracie pushes Hudak against the cage but Hudak circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Hudak swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gracie tries to clinch up but Hudak circles away and keeps his distance.
Gracie throws a body shot but no joy.
Gracie dives in for a single leg takedown but Hudak sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
It looked like Hudak wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.

Jamal Hudak has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Reinaldo Gracie.
Gracie misses with a shot to the body
and Hudak counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Gracie thinking.
Gracie has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Gracie shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Hudak as he avoids it easily.
Hudak attempts a counter takedown but Gracie avoids it well and moves away.

Hudak uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Gracie.

and Hudak counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Gracie has Hudak up against the cage in a clinch.

Hudak has clasped his hands together around Gracie's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Hudak sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Gracie is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Hudak lands a few punches from side control.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

I wouldn't like to be where Gracie is right now.

Gracie is desperately trying to improve his position but Hudak has a good base and remains in mount.

Jamal Hudak overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Hudak swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Gracie is now in Hudak's guard. A big mistake from Hudak there, giving up the dominant position!

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. And we move into the final round!

Gracie tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Hudak swivels and escapes.
Gracie tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Hudak paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Hudak swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Hudak tries to move into range but Gracie moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.

and Hudak connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gracie throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Hudak stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Gracie lands with a hook. Hudak tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Nice shot lands for Gracie.
Gracie shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Gracie misses with a takedown attempt - Hudak sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Gracie clobbers Hudak with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Gracie will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Gracie sizes up Hudak with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Hudak looks to score with a jab to the body but Gracie is just out of range.
Gracie throws a lazy right hand but Hudak sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Gracie tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Hudak's elbow.
Gracie goes for a body shot but it's blocked.

And that's the end of the fight!
Reinaldo Gracie comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Gracie has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
