Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jose Carvaleho (ranked 1138 p4p, 802 weight class) and Guy River (ranked 148 p4p, 105 weight class). River is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Gabon National Anthem. Jose Carvaleho has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jose Carvaleho!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Guy River!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, Paul Tew and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carvaleho uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before River has time to react.
River fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Carvaleho.
River walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Carvaleho misses with a few strikes there.

Carvaleho throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Good work by Carvaleho as he checks the leg kick.
Carvaleho throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
River with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Jose Carvaleho seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
River ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
River lands a jab.

It looks like Jose Carvaleho has been cut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

River fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Carvaleho looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
River just misses with a punch to the body.

Carvaleho lands a leg kick that knocks River off balance momentarily.
Carvaleho throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.
Carvaleho looks to score with a jab to the body but River is just out of range.
Carvaleho lands a lovely overhand right.
River throws a series of punches but Carvaleho avoids them all with ease.
River moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
River throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Carvaleho on the side of the head.
Carvaleho looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

River drops Carvaleho with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Carvaleho looks back up at him and smiles so River waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

River misses with an attempted mid kick.

Carvaleho pushes River up against the cage in a clinch.
Carvaleho prevents a body shot from River.

Carvaleho escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
River takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
No joy there for Carvaleho, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

River misses the shot to the body.

Carvaleho moves into the clinch successfully.
Carvaleho fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Carvaleho swings wildly with an uppercut but River uses good head movement to avoid it.
River gets through Carvaleho's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.

River stalling.
River is leaning against Carvaleho and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.
River digs a right hand into Carvaleho's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Carvaleho's gas tank.
Carvaleho tries to pull guard but River forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
River has a couple of punches blocked by Carvaleho.
River throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.

River escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Carvaleho drives through and clinches with River against the cage.

Carvaleho's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Carvaleho wants to clinch up but River keeps it at a distance.
Carvaleho scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. River doesn't seem bothered though.
Carvaleho loads up on a big right hand but River slips the punch.
River takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
River throws a lazy right hand but Carvaleho sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Carvaleho appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Carvaleho tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. River manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Carvaleho throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.

River fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Carvaleho manages to avoid it.
Carvaleho looked to counter that last move with a leg kick but didn't pull the trigger.

Carvaleho fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and River has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Guy River is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Jose Carvaleho's cut is getting worse.
River doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Carvaleho moves away from the strike by River.
Carvaleho attempts a counter takedown but River avoids it well and moves away.
Carvaleho slips under a jab from River.
Carvaleho is looking to counter punch.
River takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Carvaleho uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from River.
River lands the left hand.
Carvaleho jabs at River's body.
Carvaleho ducks down and throws a hook to the body but River moves away.
River is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.

River feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Carvaleho sprawling to the canvas! Carvaleho rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can River finish him?!
Oh Carvaleho is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Jose Carvaleho's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Carvaleho takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
Carvaleho fails with the takedown.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Carvaleho seems to have got his legs back now.
Carvaleho looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Carvaleho is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Carvaleho fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but River is out of range.
River looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Carvaleho jabs River to the body, keeping him at a distance.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

River cracks Carvaleho with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! Carvaleho looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can River finish him?

River really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Carvaleho. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Carvaleho works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Carvaleho throws a strike aimed at the side of River's head but River avoids it well.
Carvaleho fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Carvaleho tries to score with some ground and pound. River controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
River tries to escape but Carvaleho is in control.
River takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.

River tries to stand but Carvaleho is controlling from the bottom.
Carvaleho wants to sweep here but River controlling him for the moment.

River stands up from Carvaleho's guard - River perhaps looking for a knockout.

Carvaleho wants to control but River is keeping him busy.

Carvaleho wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by River, who protects the arm well.
Carvaleho fails to land a wild elbow strike.
River avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Carvaleho.
Carvaleho sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but River is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Carvaleho is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

River gets to his feet. Carvaleho looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
River has been working his punching technique in the buildup to the fight and it appears to be paying off.
River has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Sloppy strikes from Carvaleho. Those never looked like landing.
It seemed like River was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

That's time! Carvaleho's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. And we move into the final round!

Carvaleho throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Carvaleho throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Guy River seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Carvaleho swings for the body but River moves out of range.
Carvaleho throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent River stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Carvaleho uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from River.
River knocks out Carvaleho with a massive right hand! The ref tackles River before he can follow up with any more strikes and that's it everyone. River picks up the big W with a huge KO!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:43 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Guy River!
During a confident post fight interview, Guy River thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
