PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Nate Masvidal (ranked 1229 p4p, 1805 weight class) and Nicky Spite (ranked 164 p4p, 238 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 14 - 1, fighting out of London, Nate Masvidal!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nicky Spite!
The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Luis Engracia and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Masvidal looks to land a combination. Spite sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Masvidal looks to throw the jab but Spite is out of range.
Spite is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Spite has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Masvidal fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Spite, pushing him back against the cage.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Masvidal enables Spite to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Masvidal manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Masvidal seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.

Masvidal lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Masvidal, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
