Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jonathan Boaler (ranked 1771 p4p, 1416 weight class) and Magnus Gunnarsson (ranked 246 p4p, 193 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jonathan Boaler!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 13 - 0, fighting out of New York, Magnus Gunnarsson!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Colin Fray and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Boaler jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Gunnarsson scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
The fighters circle momentarily. Gunnarsson darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Gunnarsson thows a left - swing and a miss!
That kick from Gunnarsson tenderised Boaler's leg. Boaler is trying to keep his angry face on.

Boaler scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Boaler wants to pass to mount but Gunnarsson is defending the position.
Boaler is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.
Gunnarsson is looking to stand up but Boaler isn't so interested in that idea.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Our spies down at at NY Savages inform us that Gunnarsson has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?
Boaler stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gunnarsson swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Boaler is working hard here to advance position.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Boaler trying to control the position from guard on top but Gunnarsson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

Boaler swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Gunnarsson throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Boaler lands with an overhand left.
Gunnarsson ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Boaler moves away.

Gunnarsson throws the kick towards the body but Boaler avoids it.

It looked like Boaler wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.

Boaler has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Boaler there as he acknowledges the shot.

Boaler is trying to control. Gunnarsson wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Boaler is looking for a kimura but Gunnarsson is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Boaler to get the leverage.
Boaler is keen to just control but Gunnarsson is a slippery customer.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Magnus Gunnarsson will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Gunnarsson feints and then cracks Boaler's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Boaler down.

The fighters circling - Gunnarsson throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Gunnarsson throws a hook to the side of Boaler's head but Boaler sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Gunnarsson lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Boaler shoots in for a takedown but Gunnarsson shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Boaler throws a body shot but no joy.
Boaler looks to land a left hand but Gunnarsson moved out of range nicely.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Boaler's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Gunnarsson connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Boaler scrambles back to his feet.

Boaler tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Boaler has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Magnus Gunnarsson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Boaler is pressing down on Gunnarsson's thigh, looking to free his foot. Gunnarsson is holding on for now.
