PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Demarcus Jackson (ranked 2475 p4p, 2007 weight class) and Michael Barnes (ranked 258 p4p, 217 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Demarcus Jackson has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Demarcus Jackson seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 11 - 0, fighting out of New York, Demarcus Jackson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Michael Barnes!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Jeff Smith and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jackson fails to land with a series of punches.
Demarcus Jackson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jackson throws a low kick but Barnes moves out of range easily.
Jackson throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Barnes's head.
Jackson looks to land a left hand but Barnes moved out of range nicely.
Jackson falls off balance throwing a combination

and Barnes counters with a takedown into side control.
Barnes lands a decent elbow from side control.
Barnes looking to control but instead Jackson has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard.
Barnes prevents Jackson from standing back up.
Barnes seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Jackson does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Barnes works his way into side control.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Jackson can't do much from the bottom here.
Barnes looks up at the clock and then as Jackson takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Barnes smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Jackson wants to get back to his feet but Barnes drags him back down.

Barnes tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Barnes has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Jackson on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Barnes scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Jackson to see if he's OK.

Barnes wants to lay and pray for a moment but Jackson keeps working.
Barnes works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Barnes connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Jackson some visible discomfort.
Jackson pushes Barnes away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Barnes gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Barnes is staying tight to Jackson's torso, preventing him from escaping.

Barnes working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Jackson pushes Barnes away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Barnes gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Barnes is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Jackson knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Jackson parries the strikes from Barnes easily there. Barnes is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Jackson to escape.

Jackson tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Barnes wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Barnes working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.

Barnes swings around for an armbar but Jackson sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Barnes's guard.
Jackson wants to get up but he can't break Barnes's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Barnes looking to hit a scissor sweep but Jackson is one step ahead there.
Barnes pulls Jackson in close to prevent any damage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Barnes working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Jackson doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Jackson manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Jackson won't allow Barnes to sweep him here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Barnes lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Jackson can't keep his opponent in guard - Barnes advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Jackson wants to improve his position but Barnes is controlling well.
Ground and pound from Barnes.
Jackson is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Barnes jumps into side control!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Michael Barnes dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Jackson avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Jackson takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.

and Barnes counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

and Barnes decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Jackson's guard.
Barnes lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Jackson pushes Barnes off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Jackson throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Barnes feints the counter takedown.
Sloppy strikes from Jackson. Those never looked like landing.

Barnes drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Jackson defends it well.

Barnes is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Jackson's half guard.

Barnes lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Barnes winds up and cracks Jackson with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Jackson is refusing to be controlled, as Barnes sits in half guard.
Barnes is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Barnes is trying to control. Jackson wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Jackson on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

Barnes working over Jackson with some ground and pound. Jackson looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Barnes stops Jackson from getting back to his feet.
Barnes landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Barnes has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Jackson is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Barnes scores with a couple of nice shots.
Oh Jackson is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Barnes slips a nice elbow through Jackson's hands, connecting with Jackson's forehead.

Jackson pushes Barnes off looking to stand but Barnes dives back in and keeps control.
Michael Barnes has got the better of the ground game so far.

Barnes winds up and cracks Jackson with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Still in half guard, Barnes seems content to control.

Jackson seems to have got his legs back now.
Barnes is just content to waste time from the top position. Jackson takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Barnes is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Jackson can't keep his opponent in guard - Barnes advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Barnes has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Barnes lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

Barnes tries to control but Jackson wriggling away.
